Adam, are you trying to run vino-passwd from a remote SSH connection? Because I have the same error when I do so, but vino-passwd runs fine when logged into the desktop. I assume it can't contact gconf when SSHed so it dies poorly. This is also probably the cause of your Vino server hanging - it
