I was able to login through gdm once. Then I've updated the packages
using synaptic and after that the error appeared.

That's happening to me after clean install of dapper. Nothing useful in
the logs but the .xsession-errors.
On the last line it was written Executing default instead of
Executing /usr/bin/gnome-session

Thanks for your bug report. Do /var/log/Xorg.*.log or
/var/log/gdm/:0.log say anything interesting about the case?
