From the backtrace it did crash, gdb intercepted the crash. That's not a
debug backtrace though. Could you get a new one with gstreamer0.10
-plugins-base-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg rhythmbox-dbg installed?

Does it happen also if you switch songs quickly from the keyboard? That
might have nothing to do with the remote control

I start rhythmbox from the command line
Immediately, I get the following message in the command line:

This time, Rhythmbox didn't crash, but it was completely unresponsive.
Anyway, I hope the backtrace tells you something. Let me know if this is
not the correct backtrace, I never produced such a thing before.
