Curious... Today, the issue is gone. Now the login sound works perfectly.
I don't know why, because I didn't touch anything. Maybe the rebooting solves

Tried the logout again. Apparently the behavior has changed a bit. No the
screen just turns black. Still not possible to get into another console or do
anything else. After a forced reboot, checked the messages and syslog, but
nothing indicates anything being crashed.

I can't reproduce now because when I hit ctr-alt-backspace X doesn't restart
anymore, I stay in text-mode console and has to run sudo /etc/init.d/gdm

The dev/hdax trick just works for showing mounted partitions on Desktop and
Computer:///. But if you try to mount (using nautilus) any of this partitions,
you get a Partition not found in /etc/fstab error.
Anyway, will this terrible bug be fixed before Dapper release?
