totem won't
trying to play the following stream in firefox loads but does not play the
stream:
mms://213.254.239.51/tagesschau/msmedia/2008/0504/TV-20080504-1337-3001.wm.hi.wmv
no problem with codec obviously, the first keyframe is displayed while
buffering.. then the player just stalls and never starts
copying the url into the clipboard and loading it in vlc ... no problem,
vlc streams buffers and plays the stream flawlessly.
bottom line: totem does not play the stream, totem-firefox plugin does
not play the stream in the browser, the main media player for ubuntu as
promulgated and promoted for
Pulseaudio is trippin here too!
once i switch to alsa, Totem will play. strange as it is...
vlc and some others already play with ease, only totem is having
problems...
looks like pulseaudio doesnt like the multiouts on my delta44, seems
like it prefers consumer audio interfaces with surround

i have an m-audio delta 44... excellently controlled by alsamixer in the
terminal or by envy24control application.
volume control is unfortunately not able to set global volume comfortably.
if i move the global volume slider, only the left
if double clicked, vocal controls mixer shows up as expected.
yet it shows me all sorts of channels which don't exist on my interface.
mono-outputs 1-4 of my interface are shown as stereo outputs, therefore
breaking up the stereo channel routing completely when set to digital mixer
mode.
i
like i said... pulse won't multistream audio from different applications
simultaneously.
but alsa will.
i don't know the inside of pulseaudio, but i believe the problem described
by KenSentMe, which i also
experience here, lies not in alsa but in pulseaudio.

i think it has something to do with the write permissions in the folder used as
temp for the conversion of mp3s.
after having copied the album (mp3) i was trying to burn to my home folder,
brasero didn't repeat that behaviour.
the burning originally failed; at that point the files i was trying
get the nu version 0.9.1 from getdeb.net
everything fixed in that one!

Now, when the toolbars are hidden, it is quite easy to show them again
temporarily, by doing a simple CTRL+L.

evolution's integration into the indicator applet is a welcome step, as
everyone i ask agrees.
problem is: when i choose mail from the indicator applet drop-down menu, it
opens the overall window of evolution, regardless whether there is

gnome-terminal menu, but is disabled by default.
