You can disable touchpad while typing, and set timeout. So for example, touchpad is disabled while typing, and it will reenable itself after 3 (you choose) seconds after keyboard inactivity. There is utility called syndaemon for this, unfortunately there's no GUI for this. But it could be part of

This is still issue and it is becoming more relevant each day. Vendors of pointing devices (mouses) are switching to laser technology which also make mouses more sensitive as they have higher resolution. Again common case here is using notebook with mouse, where we need to set treshold

I can confirm this behaviour in hardy. I don't know if it caused by gnome menu, but sometimes the panel refuses to hide, sometimes it helps to click/focus it and then move focus away. then the panel hides. but sometimes it won't help. this should be fixed as this is basic optional behaviour one
