That patch, applied to my svn/hg version of vinagre + gtk-vnc, did the
trick!
Vinagre was able to connect to my OSX box without any further trouble.
Thanks for fixing that.
I don't know what the process for this is, but somebody in Ubuntu should
really consider pushing this fix

I'd like to back up Xamusk's opinion on this.
Does anybody have a work-around for this, in the meantime?
I am able to replicate Nick Barcet's steps, and verify that the error
message does in fact change to:
Authentication method to host 192.168.1.108:5900 is
unsupported. (30)
