Jonh Weldell: That patch, applied to my svn/hg version of vinagre + gtk-vnc, did the trick! Vinagre was able to connect to my OSX box without any further trouble. Thanks for fixing that. I don't know what the process for this is, but somebody in Ubuntu should really consider pushing this fix
