Are you new to Linux or have you tried a few different distro's? I find having a few tiny linux distro's around is great for fixing things like this. DistroWatch is good for scouting around and having a quick look at a few. There's even a distro called 'SystemRescueCd'. I've used Wolvix-Cub on

Errr i think there are some easy ways to fix this if you can get into a Terminal window. I think there's even some helpful How-To guides on the installer cd even if it's an iso image. I've been quickly digging around but can't find them, sorry dude -- Crashed after root device did not respond.
