There is something else going on with fontconfig. When you go to the
fonts viewer "Fonts", some of the DejaVu font families are not shown
correctly. Some are duplicated and others are not shown. The issue is
solid repeatable. Install fonts-dejavu-extra and then launch "Fonts".

I've been getting exactly the same issue as described here, always when
I log in and find an "Authentication Required" dialog window in the top
left of the screen. I've attached a screen shot, the details of my

I can confirm that rolling back to linux-firmware=1.173.12 solves the

Nautilus 3.30.0-0ubuntu1~cosmic1 in Gnome Staging PP does not start without
tracker package.
However the tracker package is now in the universe.
The official nautilus version 3.26.4-0ubuntu3 works fine without tracker which
is a suggested package anyway.
Trying to start
OK, I looked at the file default.rule file.
And I found out that it belongs to the package tracker.
However, that package is in universe now.
I did not have it installed.
Anyway, after installing the package tracker, nautilus did start.
But the thumbnailer still did not work.
It did show of
I did get the default.rule error (starting from terminal) when I had installed
both the nautilus_3.30.0-0ubuntu1~cosmic1 and the tracker_2.1.3-1~cosmic1
packeges.
As I mentioned, at that time nautilus did not start, the small wheel on the
screen just kept on turning.
Then, after downgrading
After trying with the official cosmic tracker version 2.0.3-3, I found out that
Nautilus will start.
However the bubblewrap won't work and I get no thumbnails (tiff, jpg).

Now the command gives this:

This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops
and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron
15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in gmail,
by clicking on the phone icon
This problem happens 'out of the box' using nothing more xubuntu trusty
iso installed on two systems, one running virt-manager and the other
hosting vms. So far, so good.
To reproduce: try a standard xubuntu amd64 install on a vm guest using
qxl as the video driver and spice as the display
Installation has finished. ou can continue testing ubuntu now,
(should be 'You' and 'Xubuntu'.The two buttons are titled 'Continue
esting' and 'Restart ow'.The icons on the home screen have changed
to 'rash' 'ile system' 'ome' nad 'Install ubuntu 14.0'.

If the graphics drivers on the system running spice viewer are relevant,
it's the nvidia 304-updates. I mention this because the nature of the
'visual static' or 'visual artifacts' seems to change when moving from
one to another multi-head monitor. However the missing letters remain
unchanged

As I use xubuntu, (standard ubuntu is way too 'heavy' for our purpose)
is there a version from that world you can suggest? Whatever the
