The same problem appeared when I upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14:04.
I can no longer start Thunderbird.
I get the following when trying to run Thunderbird in terminal:

As I expected thunderbird worked after the reboot, even though on
startup it threw the same g_slice_set_config assertion. Before rebooting
I had tried to flush /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches, didn't look to clear an
ipcs though, not sure if it uses those, but I'll clear any ipcs I find
next time (using

I experienced this bug on Thunderbird, after upgrading to the 17.0.8
release, on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit. I resolved starting in safe mode and
disabling all the addons: I further re-enabled them one by one, and it
turned out that the bug was caused by Facebook and Twitter tabs. I don't
really need

I get the same error when I try to install IE6 under Ubuntu 13.04 in
order to fix the connect to web album problem with Picasa 3.9 (following
the instructions from http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/install-picasa-39
-in-linux-and-fix.html). My firefox is working fine (wintricks is
opening a new tab
