I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 and I'm using Nemo 1.8.4 since Nautilus
doesn't support an extra visible pane anymore (F3). I believe Nemo is
based on Nautilus and I've got the exact problem as mentioned in this
bug report. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks for the bug report, I can confirm in trusty and that seems fixed
with nautilus 3.10 (the update is being considered/tested). If we don't
get the new version then we should look at backporting the fix for that
issue

ok, it was indeed an issue with the new GTK with an easy commit, I've
backported that to trusty so we don't have a less usable filemanager
until the 3.10 situation is sorted out

The same bug is also present in Nemo so it looks like a gtk+ 3 is the
source of the problem.

This also effects nautilus 3.10.1 from the GNOME 3 PPA. I noticed it
trying to rename files such as .gconf and .config to test fresh
profiles.
