Hi all,

Please welcome Kevin Klues as the newest committer and PMC member of the
Apache Mesos project.

Kevin has been an active contributor in the project for over a year, and in
this time he made a number of contributions to the project: Nvidia GPU
support [1], the containerization side of POD support (new container init
process), and support for "attach" and "exec" of commands within running
containers [2].

Also, Kevin took on an effort with Haris Choudhary to revive the CLI [3]
via a better structured python implementation (to be more accessible to
contributors) and a more extensible architecture to better support adding
new or custom subcommands. The work also adds a unit test framework for the
CLI functionality (we had no tests previously!). I think it's great that
Kevin took on this much needed improvement with Haris, and I'm very much
looking forward to seeing this land in the project.

Here is his committer eligibility document for perusal:

Cong,

it's strange that you project your frustrations—which are understandable
and may have good reasons—on the project as a whole. There are reasons why
things are done in the way they are done; our primary goal is quality, we'd
rather have a few well implemented features rather than a bunch of
half-finished efforts that are hard to maintain. This means sometimes we
can't distract and invest time into some great but not yet prioritized
features.

You brought up some reasonable suggestions in other threads. As every group
of people with more that 1 person, Mesos community has some inertia.
Features, ideas, and processes should settle down and cook for a while
(except if it is a critical bug). It would be great if we can work together
improving developer experience, despite frustrations, inertia, and personal
opinions.

But everyone can easily help us to deal with the known issues. Reviewing
patches of other contributors, paying attention to style and typos, do
better testing. All these things can be done right now, without discussion
and involving committers and will directly help them (committers) to feel
more comfortable about the feature and land patches. For example, you could
have reviewed r/47281/ and help José, right?

It would also help if we separate technical discussions from operational
issues. This way it's easier to search history.

Though k8s is a great project, I don't think that hopping from project to
project is a rewarding experience. Like in a relationship, sometimes one
should invest time and effort to make things work. And be patient and
forgiving : ).

+1 for creating forks of well-known projects those we may want to use as
module under mesos github. And for the rest of the lesser known
projects, we may create a github project under mesos that will only list
down those projects.

Hi folks,

As we are all excited of Mesos modulerization that custom components can be
easily plugged in, I want to initiate this discussion on how we host and
maintain those module projects.

A well-designed module may benefit a broad range of users and we see
modules as part of the Mesos ecosystem. Having a centralized catalog would
make it easier to browse and manage.

For example, we see many Mesos-related projects under
https://github.com/mesos , which could be an ideal place.
https://github.com/mesos/modules stands as an example/template that enables
people to quickly develop their own module.

We also need to decide on the couple of other things such as acceptance
criteria, maintenance, autonomy, etc. Essentially, we want to set
guidelines that developers can easily follow and contribute to the Mesos
ecosystem.

Your thoughts and comments are highly appreciated!

But unfortunately could not.

Hi Disha,

Thanks for asking.

We cannot just rename the `authenticate` flag to `authenticate_frameworks`
because that will break users who are already setting that flag, when they
upgrade to the new version (that has this change). We always strive to do
backwards compatible changes.

The first step is to add a new flag called `authenticate_frameworks` flag
and make sure the master does the same thing as when `authenticate` flag is
set. As part of this we need to 1) send an email to dev/user mailing lists
that this deprecation is coming and 2) update the CHANGELOG. Lets say this
all happens in the 0.28 release. After a few releases (to give
users/operators enough time), we can remove the `authenticate` flag.

Does that make sense?

MESOS-4386 says :

<<<<<<
`authenticate_http`

flags, we should rename `authenticate` to `authenticate_frameworks` flag.

This should be done via deprecation cycle.

1) Release X supports both `authenticate` and `authenticate_frameworks`
flags

2) Release X + n supports only `authenticate_frameworks` flag.>>>>>>>>

How should I move ahead with resolving it ? Does it simply mean changing
the word "authenticate" to authenticate frameworks ? I am a newbie

.Please

help. :)

Intention behind try.hpp,option.hpp,result.hpp,some.hpp,none.hpp

2015-12-31 Thread Abhishek Dasgupta

Hi,

I was trying to understand some portion of codebase in mesos. Is there
any documentation that states the intention behind these files:
try.hpp,option.hpp,result.hpp,some.hpp,none.hpp? Because I found use of
some of those files quite similar. If any one please point me some
documentation on these library files or reply me with their purposes on
mail, I would be very pleased.
