On a eu un problème, pas totalement résolu, mais qui n'avait pas du
tout ces symptômes.
renderd plantait car on tentait de lancer trop de rendus en parallèle.
Ce n'était pas un problème de RAM bouffée.

I presume you are running Mapnik? Here are few posts that will help you

I built tile server using packages following steps from switch2osm.
Now, I want to change it's background. I tried to change it in
slippymap.html but it did not worked on localhost. Now, what to do?

It seems to me that in slippymap.html whole page is covered with the map,
so background of a web page is not visible at all (except for thin
borders). As for the map background, its settings are stored in Mapnik's
XML style files, not in HTML nor CSS.
