please note there are also plans to provide a "Content Package Plugin" by
Apache Sling itself:

for which we would happily provide code from the wcm.io plugin as a starting
point. but i had no time in the past months to work on it.
i've added some additional comments to WTOOL-29, this could be a good
intermediate step.
