certificate winenrs and thanks to everyone who participated in this
I use an IC-735 for ALE on MARSWorks fine but it limit it to groups of
frequencies between relay clicks.

40M was bad last night, I am monitoring 14109.5 today if anyone
wants to test some ALE.

I did try the Generic setting with different parameters. I am not sure
of what this does as it does not seem to work with the CI-V. I tried
using the Pro 2's address in the box called Radio ID but this did not
really do anything. I used 8, N, 1, for the other parameters. I do have

If the ALE software can only key the transceiver via RTS, you could
build a one-transistor RTS-to-PTT interface for the transceiver
control serial port. This interface would be ignored with the rest
of your soundcard software (which does tx-rx switching via CI-V
commands), but would allow the

I'm no expert on this but I guess it depends on what you mean "doing
ALE". Any radio that you can connect to a soundcard will "do ALE"
via PC-ALE , but perhaps only on a single frequency. Ideally you
should have a radio that provides rig control via PC-ALE, AND one

Hi Nick,
You can download the ALE program PCALE from the HFLINK.COM website.

KU2A and I had a good QSO in Pax2 today (40m New Hampshire to western
NY, 30 watts, daytime conditions) . We then switched to Domimno Ex in
Multipsk and it too was very good.

So what are you guys
doing with all these cool digital modes? Any BBS's? Any store and

You might want to take a look at PAX2, you will find it in the
software Multipsk. Several folks here say it is somewhere between

Hello ,
I recently acquired an old Dell Optiplex GX1 500L+ computer
to be used for PSK31, received audio spectrum observations etc.
As you know it is class B IT equipment (CISPR and FCC) which
means a low level of RF radiation .
I would like to know how good is it in practice .Is there any

Hi Andy,
My ALE rig is on the air tonite. 40m included.
If you link with me and I don't keyboard you right away, please leave
me an AMD with the time and freq before you clear the link. I will
pick up the message later.

While fairly technical at times, the one thing that stood out is that
the computational power and especially memory available (3G cell stuff
and maybe 256K) is not that large. So it could be implemented. However,
this appears more for multicasting in the case of the fountain codes.

I gave you a call Bonnie but no contact, 40M must be bad again
tonight. I have been monitoring 7065 for the past hour and have heard
no ALE signals.

Yes, the 735 requires a CI-V level converter. You can purchase third-
party units for ~$30, or build one yourself for under $10; let me
know if you want a schematic.
The 735 has a longterm reliability problem with VFO capacitors; ask
on the Icom reflector for the gory details.
73,
You could reconfigure your CI-V interface to take power from a wall
wart or some other convenient source of DC power. That would
eliminate any dependence on the ALE software properly configuring
the modem-control signals for power supply duty.
