Yikes, Walt! You could do some really creative CQ pictures for SSTV, not to
mention DRM with that callsign and phonetcs. Barring any limations in the
imagination, of course.GRIN

I wonder about the performance of PSK31 and RTTY decoding that is
built in to the firmware of rigs like the Icom 746 Pro. Does anyone
use their rig in this way? How does the decoding perform, is it
useful having in in a rig or is it just a bell and whistle that no-one
really uses?

I am wondering if anyone is using some of the PC's that are being
developed for various vehicular uses and apparently can run on regular
12 vdc power?
Example:

These are not low cost, but appear to be very compact and could also be
used for
Has anyone else using a Buxcomm Rascal noticed a lot of attenuation on
the receive audio? When I installed the Rascal, I immediately had to
increase the volume level on the sound card to almost maximum, and had
to change from Line In to Mic In in order for the applications to
hear the rig.
I'm
-Glad you have the Rascal working, does it do FSK with your 746 OK?
The 232 has arrived back home, will mail you Monday.

Andy,
In my opinion, that feature is in a gray area, between useful and practical.
I do believe this feature in the Icom has helped motivate many hams to give
RTTY a try. Once they see the messages being exchanged, it becomes an incentive
to investigate what is needed to participate. I suppose
The IC-7800 can encode and decode both RTTY and PSK. Tuning a PSK
signal using the small waterfall display is not easy, but is
possible; RTTY is much more practical.
I will eventually extend WinWarbler to treat transceivers with RTTY
decoding capability like an external modem, providing
It seems to work FB except for the attenuation, and that's not
really a problem. Glad you got the 232. Was unsure of you address. Sent
you a couple of emails but never got a response. Took a chance that QRZ
was correct hi!

Dave,
I use a RASCAL with my ArgoV and it works great and have no Level
issues. I'm wondering if the unit you got was specific for your rig.
That is, there have been a few different models of RASCAL over the
years and I thought there might be more than an cable change between
rigs. Also, I believe
Although I wish I could use the RTTY filters in my ICOM 756 Pro 2
without having to set up some kind of keying for FSK, I only have AFSK
set up since it runs all the digital sound card modes in a similar
fashion. I actually very rarely use RTTY anymore as I considered it
obsolete for my
Don't laugh but I'm running windows 98, MixW RigExpert USB, MixW218 and
trying to run ACLog and have it control an Icom725 when not using MixW.
WHEW. MixW runs well both mode and cat control with MixW. What is the
secret for ACLog's setup using the RigExpert USB? Exhausted! Thanks for
any help.
Peter,
Your not alone. I don't live far from you and despite having directional
antennas (including a 5 element monobander on 20 meters) I too have a lack
of over-the-pole Q's in my log compared to non-polar paths.
Generally speaking, I think part of the HF polar mystery is the shorter
window
Well, when the signals go over the poles they get cold and sometimes freeze up.
