Hello Andy and all,
I don't think NR must be a so good idea for digimodes. Because, it can be seen
as non-linear filter.
In that type of filter, the next sample is calculated, knowing the previous
symbols and guessing what is the most probable symbol if nothing change (a sort
of no more set of
It is just me? Recently I have noticed a lot of people using those
wide bandwidth devices that produce voice signals. microphones are
what they are called, around 7070-75 and 14070-77. I did not use to
hear them so often. It is not just USA hams. so did something else
change other than the

I'm sorry to hear that.
The coordinated ALE frequency is 3596.0 USB.

Canadian hams use voice from 7050 to 7100.

It was mostly folks serving the ARQ FAE variety, testing it out. The
Butterball variety. Me, being a good boy, also tried the traditional recipe
and transmitted on 3596 plus other 40 and 30M frequencies. No takers last
night. Maybe I'll try with better cranberries tonight.

Actually this is organized by the ARRL and it's called ARRL SSB DX contest.
There are plans to use things called a 'telephone' for it in future,
when everybody will be allowed to take part without doing an examination.

Good thing we keep the WARC bands clean of these

7070 is understandable, As of yet, most DX ONLY has 7.0-7.1 for their whole
40 meter band, thus use voice in the upper section of that. 14.070 is
allowed by many countries also, but they generall have the whole band from
14.0-14.350 for their operations, and its just bad manners to use anything
Thanks again for everyone who has chimed in. The contest this weekend
has made contacts difficult, but conversations with WD4KDK, N0TAO,
N7AXL, and W0CYF and reading the postings I am pretty sure that between

I disagree on the transfer function. It is an adaptive linear filter.
Since it does not mix two tones in the passband, it can't be nonlinear.
Hello Robert,
TKS for the correction. I returned to my books. LMS filters are in general
linear (LMS-FIR), however they can also be in a recursive structure (LMS-IIR).
We agree that they are no good for digital modes.
Yes the a priori is not very favourable.

Patrick, thanks for your reply. An IIR filter (with an FIR component

Hi All,
Got HamPAL and DigTRX installed and running.
I am currently listening to 14.233 with HamPAL. Some audio signals, but no
digital.
Would like to try and make sure I have everything working correctly.

Kevin. With Hampal the pictures do not show up as a default unless you
receive ALL the segments. There is a setting that you can change that will
let you see the pictures even if you miss a few segments. Additionally,

Canada has always used the segment from 7050 to 7100 for SSB. The national
calling frequency ( and emcomm frequency) is 7055.
There was a contest on and 40 was open into south america and the Carribean so
there were a flock of stations working the contest and listening up into the US
SSB band.
Hi Kev:
