you should put indexes in a filesystem without quotas.
Something like:
mail_location =
maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/dovecot/%u:CONTROL=/var/dovecot/%u
where /var/dovecot/ doesn't use quotas.

I am running dovecot on FC7, gcc 4.1.2, mailbox is on NFS. Whenever I did
