far off from having the ExternalIdentifier portion be an
ExternalIdentifier service in 2.0 that would be utilized to add

There was a trunk containing some DAO work, and changes to the
identifier system. A lot of this code is no longer actively
maintained, so trunk has been moved to a new branch called
