Hi Christophe,
there is no trailing space at the configuration line. And the
DIM-submission.xsl is placed in [dspace-src]/config/crosswalks/ and
[dspace]/config/crosswalks/. In both cases it is readable and executable
for everyone...

I suppose something like dim:annex would have to be developped...

You need to import the xml files with DSpace's import tool (see
documentation). However, you you first need to parse the XML to a format
which is understood by the importer. I think you need to do this

I've looked through the literature, but have been unable to find
anything on best practices for ETDs in Dspace.
George Mason is using our DSpace repository for holding our ETDs,
along with the other usual IR types of things. I wouldn't say there is
a current best practices guide, but the Networked Digital Library of
Theses and Dissertations (www.ndltd.org) web site has much information.
This is an interesting statistic which we are not really collecting for
the DSpace community. Perhaps we could invite everyone who has a DSpace
instance registered on the wiki also to list the content types that they
are using it for.
And in answer to your question, we are also using DSpace

I don't know what a mod API is, but DSpace does have a very
powerful plugin mechanism. We have used it here to create
a custom RESTful Web services interface for ingestion and
