Can anyone tell me what will be the results if I am doing DSpace-1.5.2
upgrade to 1.6.1 upgrade and I happen to not run the following script :
dspace-source]/dspace/etc/oracle/database_schema_15_16.sql

you need to run the db upgrade script, if not many things will not work:
- deleting a community, collection, item
- authority control
- harvesting

Your installation will be inconsistent if you don't.

your assumption is right, the description does not belong to the
metadata and thus can not be made searchable via the default search
mechanisms. At the moment DSpace only knows item related metadata,
allthough some metainformation about other DSpace objects is kept in db
tables.

I you have to create the Anonymous group through SQL, creating this group
with admin panel will not help you as this is a special group and inbuilt in
DSpace.
The name of the group does not matters, DSpace requires its ID.

I was looking over the dspace stats code to see if it had anything to remove
counts from crawlers and I don't see anything in there. I just wanted to make
sure that is the case.

could get it running on GlassFish, but we currently don't have any
documentation for a GlassFish setup.

You always need to follow all upgrade steps to perform a successful
upgrade of DSpace.
If you do *not* run the appropriate *.sql script, then your database
will not be upgraded properly. Also, the system will likely not
function properly, as you'll be running a DSpace 1.6.1 user

DSpace essentially stores its files on your local filesystem. So, it
can store on anything that acts like a local filesystem. This means
that you can store data on a SAN or an external drive assuming that it
is mounted on your local filesystem and appears as a normal drive/folder.

I think you might assign the default permissions to the Anonymous groups.
As per your problem, I think you need the add read permissions on the items
to the users of anonymous group.
As each eperson in the DSpace is; by default, member of Anonymous group,
this must work.
