After setting-up, Dspace permits upload of only a single file (dataset). Is
this normal or do I have to purchase Dspace subscription to be able to
upload multiple datasets? Please advise.

Sorry for the delay in getting back. As we are in the midst of testing
DSpace 5, we've received a lot of recent small issue reports, and we're
still catching up on all of them.
I will mention, it also helps to log issues individually in our Issue
Tracker system
A follow-up on the Batch import (ZIP) issue reported below. After
some further testing, it seems like something is misconfigured on the
demo server (http://demo.dspace.org).
Batch Importing of Zips seems to work properly on other DSpace 5 test
instances (e.g. http://trydspace5.longsight.com/
OK...I made the build.properties change as you mentioned below
(http://localhost:8080/solr )
Ran maven and ant again. But still get the exact same error.
Do I need to run some kind of solr setup... ?

localhost:8080 instead?
You can double check that DSpace is using the right URL by checking for
these lines in the files in [dspace]/config:
