If I remember correctly (others may have more detailed info), I had to set up
the appropriate information in the Bitstream Format Registry (In the Administer
section) for the files that we were importing. In our case, it was MP3 files

Have you seen the Request Copy add-on? It may have some of the functionality
you are looking for, but the version that currently exists does -not- work with
DSpace 1.5. In fact, it doesn't work with 1.4, either. The developers, from
what I have learned, are no longer supporting it.
I'll put my two cents in here...
I haven't dug deep into ways of making these queries work better than they
already do, but my experience tells me that there has to be a faster way of
doing these operations. Sequence scans (i.e., Seq Scan on bi_2_dmap) are
extremely costly on large tables and
