[Dspace-tech] FW: dspace logs in hosting
Dears, I check the values and do changes inside dspace installation directory [dspace] in two files: In config file and in log4j.properties file dspace.dir =/lv_Customer_Data/home/public_html log.dir = ${dspace.dir}/log the previous log4j.appender.A1.File=C:/Program Files/Dspace_install/log/dspace.log I change it to log4j.appender.A1.File=${log.dir}/dspace.log I also change A2 and A3 And check the user and permission Then restart tomcat But still there is an internal system error and no logs in /lv_Customer_Data/home/public_html/log Does anyone know What is the problem Do you think because I do the changes in the installation directory and not in the source directory then running ant init_configs Because I don’t have the source directory so I do the changes in the installation directory Thanks Mr.Peter for your response Any support is highly appreciated Regards, Lulwah AL-Yahyan From: Peter Dietz [mailto:pdiet...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 15, 2011 6:34 PM To: lulwa alyahyan Cc: dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace logs in hosting Hi Lulwa, Check /dspace/config/log4j.propertieshttps://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-1.6.2/dspace/config/log4j.properties#L37 for where it is writing the logs. log4j.appender.A1.File is where it will be trying to write to. [Dspace-tech] SOLR Configuration Problem
Hello, I have deployed SOLR and _seem_ to have configured it correctly, it responds when visiting http://localhost:8180/solr/ with two links: SOLR and SOLR Admin. Clicking on the SOLR Admin link returns a 404 HTTP error. In fact, any URI past /solr/* returns a 404. This error is also revealed when clicking on a community, but no other pages. The /statistics-home URI also does not generate the body, but also does not produce an error. Probably because I haven't updated the indexes yet, due to the same error stopping the dspace index-update command from running. Re: [Dspace-tech] MODS in dspace
Hi David, DSpace actually does not have METS, PREMIS or MODS integrated into its internal metadata schema. Currently, DSpace only supports simple metadata schemas of the form: [schema].[field].[qualifier] So, by default, DSpace provides a schema called dc with many different fields/qualifiers. But, you can also create your own schema with your own custom fields, e.g.: mylocalschema.myfield.myqualifier However, that being said, DSpace can export/import METS (with both PREMIS and MODS contained in that METS file). But, internally, DSpace does not support storing/updating/creating your metadata in METS/MODS/PREMIS. Instead, when you import a METS document (containing MODS or PREMIS) the metadata always translated (crosswalked) into DSpace's internal metadata format (based on Qualified Dublin Core). A basic example of this is the DSpace 1.7+ AIP Backup Restore functionality. As of 1.7, DSpace can export/import AIP (Archival Information Packages) in order to both backup restore content within DSpace. These AIPs are actually zip packages which contain a METS document (which itself contains PREMIS and MODS, along with other metadata). DSpace is able to generate (export) these AIPs and also import them. But, when they are imported, DSpace just parses the METS document and translates all metadata back into the internal DSpace metadata schema. Here's some more info on the AIP Backup Restore functionality: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/AIP+Backup+and+Restore In addition, here's a description of the METS format used in the AIPs: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/DSpace+AIP+Format Finally, the you can also just export/import METS files directly (without generating full AIPs) using the command-line Packager Importer/Exporter: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/System+Administration#SystemAdministration-PackageImporterandExporter I hope this helps to clarify things. Please, let us know if you have further questions (or if I've misunderstood your question)! - Tim On 6/21/2011 1:34 AM, david wrote: Hi to all community list We were wondering if there is a way to integrate MODS schema into dspace same way as it does with METS or PREMIS. Re: [Dspace-tech] can't find [dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/
I have 1.7.1 from the standard release installation and not the source release. I did not find the messages.properties file either. What I realized is that Messages.properties file is shipped along with the jar files. I downloaded the dspace-api-1.7.1.jar file from the lib directory ([dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-1.7.1-build.dir/webapps/jspui/WEB-INF/lib) and extracted it locally. In that folder you will find Messages.properties. I copied that into [dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources/Messages.properties and made changes to that file as I needed. Rebuilt dspace and it seemed to work. I am not sure if this is the way to go or not. It worked for me. I think if you don't install Dspace from source release the default files will be shipped with jar files and if you want to overwrite anything you have to recreate the files in your directory. It is weird that it is not documented anywhere although it says edit Messages.properties file found in . You might want to try the same for the rest of the files too. I just needed Messages.properties in english. Anitha So if we want to overwrite or change anything in that file. Re: [Dspace-tech] large video files in dspace
Hi Tint, Thanks very much for the explanation. Another question (this is an issue with another repository): we have some records in our repository with links to video files on our streaming server. Now, we want to archive those files in dspace. I'm aware that we can upload additional bitstreams to an existing record from front end. But how can I do it from backend? Export item and then import again? Or is there any other way? The 'itemupdate' command introduced in DSpace 1.6 should allow you to do this.
