Hi Helix84 and Team

Thanks for the helpful ideas, I have reinstalled tomcat 6 and it opens xmlui
and well as jspui pages, the problem is that when I click on links like open a
community or collection I get Connection Reset error, when I sometimes restart
tomcat and reload pages then open community it opens and when I want to open
pdf file I get Connection Reset error message.

Please advise.

Lewatle

Hi Lewatle,

DSpace documentation says it should work with Tomcat 5.5 and newer, so the
problem shouldn't be with Tomcat version. That said, your tomcat configuration
may be broken so a reinstall might help.

But I would check the obvious things first:
1) check that your dspace1.7.2 directory (including all subdirectories and
files) is owned by the same user as tomcat runs under
2) check tomcat logs for any errors and warnings

I never encountered this, the only things I can recommend are for you
to send the full error you see to this list and look for
errors/warnings in the tomcat log file at the time of the error.

I did a quick Google search for tomcat connection reset and while it
didn't tell me anything definite, I have a feeling that your pool of
connection may be too low. Another wild guess - do you have enough
memory for tomcat? The log should answer these questions.

This error indicates that tomcat already runs on port 8009 (possibly
one of the other instances). Therefore this tomcat can't start
listening on that port.

You have 2 options: either clear that up with your IT dept
(recommended) or make sure each of those tomcats uses different ports.

There are several more errors there but they may be just consequences
of this, so let's clear that up first.

2011-07-13 Thread Joshua Gomez
Thank you for the advice Stuart. I installed the Sun JDK and got the same
error (see below). I have also tried changing the number of files allowed in
the shell by adding the following lines to the /etc/security/limits.conf file:

* hard nofile 65536
* soft nofile 65536

I have read on other mailing list archives that I should adjust the kernel file
limits to 200k, but when I check the current value, it is already much larger!

 cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max
799000

I'm wondering if I should try doubling the shell limit. Does anyone have any
other suggestions? Below is the error output:

The error message below suggests that you are running the openjdk. Instead,
try installing the official Sun JDK:

 It appears this error is not a problem with DSpace so much as the server
 environment, but I'm wondering if anyone else has come across such an error
 before?

 This error occurred after the new items had been filtered and the script was
 in the process of updating the index. I recently added about a thousand items
 that had very poor OCR (they were very old documents) and our index word
 limit is not set, so I am wondering if the index has become too large due to
 all the new words from the bad OCR. Many of the pdfs we added are pretty
 large so I'm also wondering if it's just a memory issue.

 Any thoughts?

Hello,

check your database settings in the dspace.cfg see section

___
# Database settings #

# Database name (oracle, or postgres)
db.name = ${default.db.name}
#db.name = postgres
#db.name = oracle

# URL for connecting to database
db.url = ${default.db.url}
#db.url = jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/dspace

# JDBC Driver
db.driver = ${default.db.driver}
#db.driver = org.postgresql.Driver

# Database username and password
db.username = ${default.db.username}
db.password = ${default.db.password}
#db.username = dspace
#db.password = dspace

Make sure you got the right name and password for the databaseuser of
your database, e.g. your database is called myDSpaceDatabase and the
user is called dspaceTestUser with the password xyz your settings
would be

db.url = jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/myDSpaceDatabase
db.username = dspaceTestUser
db.password = xyz

Hope that helps

Re: [Dspace-tech] Any hints for StreamCorruptedException

2011-07-13 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Jennifer,

I've never actually seen that error before either. But, a little bit of
Google searching seems to imply that somehow your XMLUI/Cocoon Cache has
been corrupted (not sure what the cause could have been though).

http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/fTi8LIEB3AxnszySzs8E

The solution they give is to actually remove your Cocoon Cache
altogether and restart the web application.

To clear you XMLUI/Cocoon Cache in DSpace, you'd do the following:
(1) Stop Tomcat

(2) Go into Tomcat's 'work' directory, and look for a folder named
xmlui (or whatever the name of your XMLUI webapp folder is, if you
renamed it). It likely should be at a path similar to:
[tomcat]/work/Catalina/localhost/xmlui/

(This path may be slightly different based on how your Tomcat is
configured locally)

(3) Inside that xmlui folder, you'll find a cache-dir folder. This
folder contains the Cocoon Cache (you'll see files named
'cocoon-ehcache.*' in that folder). Delete that entire folder and all
its contents.

(4) Now, restart Tomcat. As XMLUI/Cocoon starts back up, it will
recreate its cache automatically.

I've been looking around on the web to see if there's any easier way to
do this (without having to reboot Tomcat), but it doesn't seem like
there is.

Good luck. Let us know if this resolves the problems or not.

- TIm

[Dspace-tech] SWORD deposit issue

2011-07-13 Thread Diwakar Timilsina
I am trying to do a SWORD deposit from one DSpace instance to another. However,
I am getting two different Handle URI after the SWORD deposit.

Is there any way to have just one Handle URI? Preferably the handle URL issued
by the target DSpace instance. I could not find any setting at all in
dspace.cfg for this.

The source DSpace instance is an ETD application called Vireo, developed by the
Texas Digital Library. It's built on top of DSpace (ver 1.5.x) and it only
supports SWORD protocol to deposit into target DSpace instance. It does not
support harvesting.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.
