Make sure that your [dspace]/assetstore/ directory has write access for the
user your servlet container (Tomcat) runs as.
Assuming that user is dspace with group dspace, you would run
chown -R dspace:dspace [dspace]/assetstore/
chmod -R u+rw [dspace]/assetstore/
