Ok . First off all I'm trying to do is replace my 10 year old D-700 in my vehicle. I already have a GPS onboard, I also use it as a backup on my boat, to Geocashe, as well as use it for my mobile APRS tracker, so I have a need for a handheld GPS with a display. Now I have DSTAR, APRS, and as

Jeff, I posted that email because I appreciate what your doing with experimenting and making better use of Amateur Radio. PLUS I feel that with some additional POSITIVE emails you might find a better or on the spot solution to your problem. But most of all, from me and other hams, THANK YOU..!!!

Also I'm now looking at getting the GPS data out of the 2820 to be shared by an external device. Two possibilities. First, although not clear from the manual and you probably have to have the digital band in GPS rather than DATA mode and thus might not be able to use the low speed data channel

You can use the IC-2820 internal GPS to feed the GPS data to D710. I have been using RC-D710 and IC-2820 combo for six months and had great success. Use the DATA JACK (not PACKET JACK) on the back of 2820 to get the GPS data, which can be transferred directly to the RC-D710. 73 Oba JA7UDE ---

Oba , would you be so kind as to give us the pinout (tip , center, ground)from the 2820. I have the cable supplied with the RC-D710 , I'm assuming the copper shield is ground, and the white or red lead is needed to supply the GPS data stream to the 710. I was trying this just before dark here,

I got the 2820 GPS data going to the 710! It's a straight through cable to the data port of the 2820 from the 710. The menus in the 2820 were a bit of a bear to figure out. Anyone needs any information from me on setting this up, email me off list. Thanks for all the help from the group,

Wow!! Oba, this sounds great. I have tried to see if I could see the data using a terminal program but nothing is on the port. I am using the same cable I use to clone the memory channels but I see nothing. Is there something else I need to do in order to get 'the data started' or something
