Hi Jim,
If you have your rotator controlled by dx4win its easy to setup.
Under rotator you have the tab Parameters where you can setup for each band
An offset and also a correction for the selected band.

As a former naval navigator, I have been following this discussion with
interest. I agree with Jim that it makes most sense to use true north. The
magnetic pole shifts each year, and the amount of shift is indicated on
nautical charts as the Variation. Each bearing taken with a magnetic
I agree with the post by Vigis LY2CX about the problem with the 3 digit RST
SSB option. Could there possibly be a selection to allow setting SSB for 2
or 3 digit in Preferences? I enter a lot of Q's from paper and it is a
breeze with CW QSO's but a snag on SSB.

To be very exact if use a compass to set a True NORTH,
we have to take in to account 3 meanings of the north
1. True North - the point what we rally need (Geographic North Pole)
2 Magnetic North - called declination (magnetic variation) and

3 Compass North - called
While I am on my soapbox I may as well mention the thorn in my side in
having to go through all the bands I don't use to get to the one I need. 7
steps to get to 160 M. Using the mouse to slide to it is a distraction. If
a 2 nd digit could be recognized then it would only take 2 steps. ie 16 to
Each time I start v8.02, the RTTY Control Panel opens with the rest of the

That's what it does in V7 as well, at least for me. That's what it's
supposed to do if you have MMTTY enabled.

In my station, once MMTTY window is closed, and I
I LIKE having the MTTY window open. Then, if a target of opportunity
presents on RTTY, it is that much faster to engage.

Does anyone want anything else added while the code is changing?
Thanks 73 - Jim
I think I have solved the mystery -- and must admit I feel somewhat
embarrassed about the solution.
In a previous configuration, I must have opened the MMTTY window and at that
time the monitors were one above the other. In the current configuration,
the monitors are side-by-side. I reset the
