Thanks to everybody who gave me ideas. To help others who might run into
the same problem I give below the solution.
I copied the SAVE files as well as the DX4WIN.zip - and the SM0LZT.key
files to a cd-disc and then installed the program on the laptop.
Apparently all files in the SAVE-folder
I saw something on here to the effect that there were problems with the DX
spotter in the DX cluster area.
I have not paid close attention to the spots other than to note that it
finds new ones for me and
announces them. What am I overlooking? I am looking at other programs but
I know it will

Roger,
I don't understand...
The other thing is that 3 digits are the default for report boxes regardless
of mode. This should be mode/band dependent, especially for SSB on HF, where
I constantly have to go and correct the rstS from 595 back to 59. Two years
and I haven't gotten used to this
or
mouse clicking the next box after the rstS two digit report is manually
entered. 73, -=Rog-K9RB=-

May I suggest that SSTV users would prefer the RST to default to 595 when a
report is automatically inserted. Making the RST mode dependent would be a
nice feature.

There is still a problem with the spots
I use the dx4win's database
When i have a new band spot and the mode of the spot is unconfirmed,
dx4win paints the spot with the colour of no4 priority and not no3.
Ex. I saw 3b9c on 80m rtty. I have not confirmed 3b9 in rtty and i have not
worked a 3b9

The DX4WIN exe file is actually around 2.8Mb; I used an EXE packer to reduce the
size of the program to about 900K. I guess that on relatively slow computers
the unpacking
time is the delay you notice. The program I used for this is called UPX, and it
is a free
program. I downloaded mine from:
Ben,
It depends on your file size. I have 18k QSOs and it opens in less than a
second.
