No thanks Kostas. It is fairly obvious from your response and others I
have corresponded with at length that these cheap Chinese interfaces
sold on eBay do NOT work properly... they are introducing errors and
relying on error correction in the programs to make them work after a
fashion.

the problem exists with others. But i have not tried the solutions.
Maybe i can find my supplier if you are interesting. Kostas sv1dpi

Are there any converters from USB directly to CI-V recommended. I
 already have a USB-RS232 and a RS232 to CI-V... but I would like to
simplify the cabling. I see some advertised on ebay very inexpensively
but considering some members experiences I am pretty sure some don't
work very well. Are there any that work other than the Rigtalk which is
 a bit pricey at $60.

DX4WIN doesn't read all of the response string from the rig when it's
checking what mode is currently set. When the next command is sent,
DX4WIN sees the leftover garbage and recovers. The lack of buffering
in the cheap interfaces means that this leftover garbage isn't
reliably read and confuses the next command (which is what reads the
VFO). All that I do is to fix the command definition to read the
entire response.

You can see this for yourself using your current interface:
File/Databases/Radios, select the Test tab, then click Read a few
times. Notice that every time DX4WIN complains about garbage ignored
or something like that.

Fixing this bug makes the cheap interface 100% reliable, at least for
me. The non-USB interface still works fine as well (even though it
didn't require the fix).

[Dx4win] Importing a ADIF file from MixW into 8.01

2009-08-21 Thread Ernie Walls
Hello all. This may well be an issue for the MixW reflector, but I will ask
the question here first.

I just imported my first QSO from MixW into V8.01. (Been in VK6 without a
radio).

The name, QTH and frequency imported perfectly from MixW to the 'correct'
boxes.

The information in the 'Notes' column from MixW however lobbed up in the
'Notes for this call' box rather than the box I thought may have been the
correct one, 'Notes for this QSO'!

In V7 the name and QTH information from MixW ended up in the 'Notes for this
call' box, and the frequency and other information ended up in the 'Notes
for this QSO' box! That is, correct (in my view).

I 'thought' this is where it probably belongs (in the 'Notes for this QSO'
box) but I will stand corrected!!

Is there a 'fix; for this, in either DX4Win or MixW, I wonder?

Any views welcome.

FWIW I agree with you I hadn't noticed this with the few MixW Qs
I've imported since switching.

If you edit your MIXW ADIF file, look for either the field NOTES or
COMMENT, change one to the other (search/replace). See if this fixes
the problem.

2009-08-21 Thread John Shaw
Hi,

I am in the process of migrating from one computer to another and have miss
placed the original download file for version 702.15 which is the one I
currently use. Anyone have a place I can download it again as I don't want
to upgrade at this stage.
