Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

2023-11-20 Thread John Pritt
I absolutely love DX4Win and have since the day it was released. For my
logging needs it is totally functional. I also think that the support is
awesome thanks to Paul, Jim, Guy and the rest of the users.

[Dx4win] log window not showing when starting program

Re: [Dx4win] A dig import

2020-08-24 Thread John Pritt
Good evening Paul and Group.

Regarding editing an ADIF file such as the one in the WSJT program click on
File then choose from drop down menu “Open wsjtx_log.adi”. Highlight those
QSOs that you are interested in then choose Copy. Be sure to highlight the
entire lIne for each QSO you wish to copy from the program. In my case I chose
to copy from 07-04-2020 to the end of the file. Close the WSJT program and
right click on your desktop, select New then choose Text Document from the drop
down menu and name this txt document. Now open this file and paste the QSOs
that you had selected from WSJT. If it looks ok close this file and change the
extension from .txt to .adi. Now you can open DX4Win and import this .adi file
into DX4Win.

I hope these instructions are clear but if not let me know where you are having
problems and I’ll help you through it.

[Dx4win] Screen freezes

2020-06-17 Thread John Pritt
I have a problem with Version 9.0.9.1259. I have been entering QSL cards this
morning and noticed two things. Screen freezes For a period of time then goes
back to normal after 5 to 10 seconds when saving changes made to a QSO and
checking the confirmed box in the Logging window does not show up in the Same
Call window for that QSO. Checking the Task Manager during freeze ups shows no
increase in CPU activity. Now I brought up Version 8 and have no freeze ups
when saving info in that version and confirming in Logging window properly
shows up in the Same Call window. Any ideas what is causing this in Version 9?
 Your help would be appreciated.

[Dx4win] Warning Win 10 updates, Very important.

2019-03-14 Thread John Pritt
Yesterday I went from the shack to the kitchen for dinner. I left DX4Win
running, as I usually do, to see if any new bands or modes are spotted.
When I came back to the shack DX4Win was closed and the desktop was showing.
I had to log back in with my password to restart DX4Win. I immediately got
a warning that that DX4Win was corrupted. I just want you all to be aware
this could happen to you. When Windows 10 wants to do an update it gives
you a warning and if you are not in front of your PC to see that warning it
will very rudely shut down any program that is running. Luckily I had just
save a copy of the SAVE directory because I had just finished entering
roughly 200 new QSL cards that I had received. Had I not saved when I did I
would have lost all those QSLs that I entered! Of course as I enter the
cards I put them away in alpa/numerical order with the other thousands of
cards I keep in a card cabinet I would have never found them all to reenter
them. Also, don't walk away from your PC without closing DX4Win or any
other programs. Remember to Save Save Save!!

[Dx4win] DX4Win ver. 9.3.0

2018-02-05 Thread John Pritt
Hi, I just purchased version 9 and looking forward to getting installed on my
Ham PC. In the past, when a new version was offered, I just copied my DX4Win
log file from the previous version into the new version. Is this still
acceptable or should I actually import the log file into ver. 9xxx? I’ve been
reading most of the reflector posts regarding this new version but I may have
missed where anyone posted that question.

I wasn’t going to upgrade because version 8 has been an awesome program for my
older radio equipment but there are 4 reasons why I decided purchased 9xxx.
1 – I wanted to do my part to ensure that Paul got financially rewarded for his
and others hard work!
2 – I also wanted to be able to import my FT8 log without having to play games
with the mode and…
3 – DX4Win ver. 8’s display on Windows 10 is very blah and the windows are non-
distinctive . Win10 just doesn’t seem to offer the various tinted title bars
with a bolder color for the selected window like XP and Win 7 did. Now that
the DX4Win skin selections work properly, I can get a nice distinction between
windows…Lastly,
4 – With all the unbelievable support from Jim (AD1C) and several others, who
could ever ask for more from a logging program!

Thank you and 73,
John (N1JP)

Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win not holding window positions - More info

2018-01-04 Thread John Pritt
What's interesting is that the Title Header of each window remains in
the same position but the size of the window shrinks a bit from what I
resized them to.  The windows that are Fixed (non-adjustable in size IE:
the Entry window) in position and size remain the same. After resizing
the windows, how I want them, I wrote the INI file and replaced the one
in the  Save directory with the same results when I restart the program.

[Dx4win] Keying a radio with a USB to parallel port adapter

2017-12-15 Thread John Pritt
Has anyone had any luck keying a radio using an USB to printer adapter?
I just purchased a new PC and of course it doesn't have a conventional
serial port or printer port.  I purchased a USB to Serial adapter and
installed it and that works great to my Ten Tec Omni VI with DX4WIN V8.
I plugged the USB to Printer adapter in but it is not showing up on the
device manager screen.  The adapter is sold under the name of UGREEN.  I
would really appreciate some input on this idea or must I key the radio
using a USB to serial port adapter?

Thank you,

Re: [Dx4win] Update DX4Win from LOTW

2017-11-20 Thread John Pritt
Thanks for your reply Mike, much appreciated. I have used the 'Compare'
utility that Jim made up (Thanks Jim!) and I've change about half of the
mismatches to what I thought they should be but I stopped half way
through because I wasn't sure which of the 3 drop-downs (made visible by
F5) I should select or change, S, C or I.

The last paragraph, number (2) of Jim's article is interesting though.
Unfortunately the 'Account Credits' chart it doesn't break down how an
award was broken down for credit such as for Mixed, Band or Mode or all
three. That's why I was hoping I could merge the LOTW DXCC QSO file
into DX4WIN log to make those selections for me automatically.

I've using DX4WIN since it was introduced, which I believe was before
LOTW was even created, but I really didn't know how to address those
entries. Certainly it was laziness on my part for not taking the time
to figure it out or asking Paul how to make those selections
accurately. I'll work on this though because I have retired and now
would like DX4WIN to reflect the correct information.

Thanks again, N1JP

[Dx4win] Update DX4Win from LOTW

2017-11-20 Thread John Pritt
Good afternoon all, is there a process in place that allows one to
download the file "DXCC QSL Download' from LOTW and merge it in such a
way to automatically update your DX4Win log, DXCC QSOs, to match that of
LOTW? If there is, can you provide that info in a text or indicate the
location where I can download it from so that I can follow it step by
step? It would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you,

John N1JP

Great question Ron. I’m still running XP pro and would really like to stay
there.

Re: [Dx4win] Future of DX4WIN

2015-10-18 Thread John Pritt
I certainly agree with you Bob. I put rig control right up there with
working with new OSs. I apologize if I was not completely up to speed with
why there are complaints with DX4WIN. I wasn't aware that Paul is not
updating for new rigs. I'm still using a Ten Tec Omni 6!

I too love DX4WIN..but if you do not have a RIG file that talks to your
radio
what do you do. I assure you NO RIG file and the enjoyment of working DX
and logging in real time is a real turn off.
So go out and buy a NON supported new rig and see how much you then enjoy
your logging program.

One of the huge incentives to buy was RIG control.
Think about not being able to use your rig with DX4WIN then think about
how

you would feel.

I bought a RIG control program from N4PY that allows it to communicate
with dx4win and fldigi. The N4PY program is amazing. Try the demo.
Beautiful radio interface.

And I paid for it.

And again all I am saying is please give us a current statement of
intentions.
I bought the program back in 2.0 have had other rigs and RIG files were
added

and supported. Really a comment from Paul is not too much to ask. IMHO.

And don't give me the "well just move on crap". Paul should be the one to
tell me this at least. No one else.

HI All,

Maybe, if Paul is not in position to update the program, we on this list
could buy access to the source code and arrange to move it forward as a
not for profit operation. The details could be tricky to work out but it
seems feasible if Paul is interested, and if we can make it good enough
to again attract new users who would pay to join this project. I have
something like N1MM but with a paid programer(s) involved.

Thanks,
