[Dx4win] Return to last frequency

2012-06-22 Thread Steve GW4BLE
With my contest logger, if I click on a cluster spot whilst 'running' I can
hit an F-key to return to my original frequency.

Is that possible in DX4WIN?

[Dx4win] DX4WIN and Windows 7

2012-01-24 Thread Steve GW4BLE
My old faithful PC running XP is getting a bit long in the tooth, so I have
a new W7 machine on order.

This may well have been covered off on previous posts, I admit to not yet
having done a complete search, but what's the current thinking on pit falls
to be aware of when doing a new installation ?

(this, or similar, will be on the microHAM Writelog reflectors also, so
apologies if you read this more than once)

Is it possible to (somehow?) open a 2nd MMTTY window with DX4WIN, such that

[Dx4win] Other QSOs - Query

2009-12-31 Thread Steve GW4BLE

This might be a bit late to investigate.

but 'what-if' I decide to open a brand new log for (say) 2010, is there any
way to run the 'Other QSOs' box concurrent with the new log so that previous
contacts can be viewed?

I guess this wont be possible as the previous contacts would be in a
different .dxl file, ?

I think the text below may help people to assign a group.

For 2010 statistics only:

1. Insert a group name in FILTER | EDIT GROUP NAMES

- Press ADD. The number 000 will show up in the upper window, type in
narrow window just below: ALL QSOs then press CHANGE.

- Press ADD again. The 001 ALL QSOs will appear in upper window. In the
narrow window overwrite ALL QSOs typing 2010 QSOs then press change.
- Press OK to complete this phase.

2. Select FILTER | SELECTION

- Press ADD

- In CURRENT SELECTION window click REPLACE THIS NAME;

- In GROUP NAME window double click the 2010 QSOs, a small X will appear
it will look like this:
   000 ALL QSOs
x 001 QSOs em 2001

- In CURRENT SELECTION window change REPLACE THIS NAME to 2010 QSOs

- In DATE FILTER window fill in FIRST DATE: 01/01/2010

- In ENABLE FILTERS windows select the DATE FILTER option

- Press UPDATE then OK.

The log now ill only present the statistics regarding to the year of
2010. To have the complete log back, just go to FILTER | SELECTION |
CURRENT SELECTION and double click ALL QSOs.

In case you need statistics for a specif date range just repeat the
entire process filling the FIRST DATE and LAST DATE.

The GROUP 000 is the default group so every time that the DX4WIN starts
the complete log is selected.

You invoke the group filter when you want to track 2010 forward. Another
trick you could probably use (haven't tried it) is to temporarily set
the award dates to Jan 01, 2010 start. You can always change them back
 later.

[Dx4win] 8.01 Group Selection - Date Filter

Under version 7 the Group Selection for a specific date range worked as:

Group Selection
Filter - Selection
Click on the Add button, change the name, enter the start/end dates, click

Now, under version 8.01, I can't get any further than 'change the name', I

Anyone else experience this?

What I am ultimately trying to do is just export part of the log as ADIF for

I talked to West Mountain Radio this morning and he was very vag on the

For years I used the Kantronics KAM until it bit the dust.

[Dx4win] Windows COM Port Problem?

2006-03-12 Thread Steve GW4BLE
This is something which has happened ever since I had this computer (Hewlett
Packard Pavilion T461, about two years old and running XP), and is something
I thought to get to grips with some time.

Scenario is this - -

Computer switched on, maybe for email or general use, but radios (2 x
1000MP) are switched off; some time later (could be an hour, maybe several
hours) the radios are switched on and the appropriate radio software booted
up (this could be DX4WIN or Writelog), but - for whatever reason (that's THE
problem) - the COM ports do not communicate with the radios. I have to
switch off, and reboot the PC in order for the COM ports to see the radio.
The particular COM ports have *not* been used for any other devices, so
something else grabbing the COM ports doesn't appear to be the issue.

OK, this is not *that* serious, just a little bit annoying, and (as stated
at the beginning) is one of those things to get to grips with some time.
So, maybe today's that day!

Anyone any idea as to what needs to be done to resolve this?

[Dx4win] Replies - Reinstall to new PC - and more questions...

2004-02-09 Thread Steve GW4BLE
Thanks to the guys who have already replied about this, based on the
comments (below), they have opened up a few more queries though

I recommend you first copy your existing DX4WIN directory (and all
subdirectories) to the new machine. THEN re-install DX4WIN in the same
place.
This is needed to get the parallel port driver working properly.

I backup my SAVE directory on to a cd and second HD.
Make a new complete install off dx4win.
Than copy the save directory in the new installation off dx4win/save
directory

Steve don't forget to copy the VICH11.sys file into Windows/system32 folder.

You should re-install DX4WIN on the XP machine then copy your key files from
the old PC. The program chooses the correct parallel port driver based upon
the operating system, and maybe other drivers.

If you are not using the parallel port, it might be OK copying everything.

Did not work for me. Just coping did not do it because when you just
copy the program is not installed. Installation is necessary to get the
program to be registered and run.

The way I got it to play was to install and set up a log.
Then
deleted the save folder and then copied in the complete old save folder.

That worked for me but it might also be possible to import the
log.
As the saying goes on this side of the Atlantic, your mileage may vary.

I did something similar with TRLog and found that the copying onto CD
converted all the files to read-only. This is readily reversible in
Windows Explorer but drove me nuts till I found it!

Questions of concern now

IF files are some how converted to read-only in the copying process, how are
they reversed in Windows Explorer?

and...

What's the issue with the VICH11.sys file? Is that something important?
