I just tried this with my own log.

If I perform an F8 search with Custom award = POTA, and don't change
anything in the Custom award value field, DX4WIN finds 1960 POTA QSOs
in my log.

If I perform an F8 search with Custom award = POTA and '*' (asterisk)
in the Custom award value field, DX4WIN finds 1927 QSOs in my log. It
does not find the 33 QSOs that have POTA in the Custom award field,
but no park number in the Custom award value field.

I am running DX4WIN 9.0.9.1259

As far as I can tell, this works as I described in my E-mail dated
Saturday, March 30, 2024.

The Custom Award database for DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier is fixed.
You can use the DX4WIN Data Updater to update the Custom Awards database.

If you have any problems, please let me know ASAP.

If you are using DX4WIN 8.x or earlier, please do NOT update the
Custom Awards database! Luc EA8AM reported a problem using the new
database. I think I had temporarily disabled some code while building
the Parks on the Air Custom Award, and forgot to enable that code
again.

I'll publish an update after 00z on Tuesday, April 2.

If you have already updated using the DX4WIN Data Updater, exit
DX4WIN, then copy DX4WIN.AWD from your BACKUP directory to your SAVE
directory. Or you can download the previous version from here:

https://ad1c.us/dx4win/awards/#24.1

I apologize for the error.

If you are tracking Parks on the Air (POTA), then please read the rest
of this message. Otherwise, you can ignore it.

As I have posted on the DX4WIN reflector more than once recently, the
Parks on the Air custom award went through a major upheaval with
respect to reference numbers. For example, all of the USA park
numbers beginning with K- now begin with US-

In this release, I have tried to maintain the original reference
number system. This is an intermediate step to converting all the
park reference numbers to their new numbers. The next step will be to
create a path for existing DX4WIN users to convert their old park
numbers to the new park numbers.

Why did I do it this way:

1. I had to do this so that users of DX4WIN 8.x and earlier could
continue to track the award. That version of DX4WIN does not have any
built-in way to convert custom award reference numbers. So the
original set of reference numbers needs to be maintained. I
*strongly* recommend that anyone who is tracking the Parks on the Air
custom award upgrade to DX4WIN 9.x if you have not already.

2. The software I wrote to maintain the original park reference
numbers will be turned into a set of rules that the Multiple QSO
operation, "Check Custom Awards" in DX4WIN 9.x will use to convert the
old park numbers to the new park numbers.

Any DX4WIN 9.x user who tracks the Parks on the Air custom award
should perform the following step after updating the Custom Award
database:

QSO | Multiple QSO operations | Check Custom Awards

NOTE: You should use an F8 search and select "POTA" in the "Custom
award" field in your logbook. Then perform the multiple QSO operation
shown above. When it asks whether to use the current filter, answer
Yes. This will allow DX4WIN to check only the POTA award and leave
all other custom awards untouched. If DX4WIN reports any errors,
please let me know the details. I may need to tweak the rules a
little in the reference number conversion.

At some point in the future, probably in a month or so, I will release
a custom award database with the last POTA reference numbers.

This fixes the problem with the missing [WWFF] award. In fact,
because of a fatal error I did not see before I released the database,
all of the following awards were missing:

* [WCA] World Castles Award
* [WCTP] Portuguese Provinces
* [WDIA] Danish Island Award
* [WDIL] Worked LY DIG Members
* [WDRB] Worked Districts Republic of Belarus
* [WEIC] Worked EI Counties
* [WGA2] WGA 21 Award
* [WGBC] UK Counties
* [WHAP] Hungarian Provinces
* [WIPOTA] Wisconsin State Parks on the Air
* [WIZA] World ITU Zones Award
* [WLDM] Worked-LDXG-Members
* [WLHA] World Lighthouse on the Air
* [WMEX] Mexican States (Diploma México)
* [WNC] Norwegian Cities
* [WNS] Nigeria States Award
* [WPC] Worked Polish Cities
* [WPNG] Papua New Guinea "Bird of Paradise" Award
* [WTEA] Worked the Equator
* [WUST] Worked US Territories
* [WWFF] World Wide Flora Fauna
* [WWYC] World Wide Young Contesters
* [WYOP] Romanian Provinces
* [YASME] YASME
* [Z40A] IRA Zone 40 Award
* [ZPDP] Departamentos Paraguay

I apologize for the mistake. I need to fix my release process so this
doesn't happen in the future.

Re: [Dx4win] Custom Award database update to fix Parks on the Air (POTA)

2023-10-31 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Hi Jim,

I think going to all 5-digit numbers for US parks has a benefit, at least
for the way I use the list to enter parks. When I work a POTA activation as
a hunter, I select POTA in the custom award field, tab to the Custom award
value field, press F1 then F2, then start typing the park number. For most
US parks this is fine, but it turns out that there are currently 456 parks
in Columbia, type doing a search for K-0400 initially brings up HK-0400. The
way I get around this is to right-click and turn off "search substring", and
then the search will match. If you go to 5 digit numbers K-00400 will only
match the US park, which solves the problem for me. If there's a way to
permanently turn off search substring I guess this would be a non-issue.

I don't have any parks with KFF- numbers so I can't comment on that piece.

I'm happy to try out a test version to see how that impacts my workflow
(hamflow?) if that would help.

David, K2DBK

Subject: [Dx4win] Custom Award database update to fix Parks on the Air
(POTA)

Hi Folks,

If you are not tracking the Parks on the Air (POTA) Custom Award in DX4WIN,
you can skip this message. The following mainly applies to users of DX4WIN
9.x.

PLEASE SEE THE QUESTIONS AT THE END. I do not want to make a change that is
going to hurt more people than it helps!!

The POTA group started issuing 5-digit reference numbers for parks in the
USA:

K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]

This causes a problem in DX4WIN because Custom Award reference numbers are
sorted strictly alphabetically. This means that these new park numbers will
get sorted like the following:

K-0999=Illini State Park [IL]
K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10001=Jewell Meadows
State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10002=Ladd Marsh State Fish and Wildlife
Area [OR] K-10003=Phillip W. Schneider State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]
K-10004=Bob Pyle Marsh Wildlife Management Area [IA] ...
K-10008=Klamath Hills BLM Recreation Management Area [OR] K-10009=Row River
National Recreation Trail [OR] K-1000=Illinois Beach State Park [IL]
K-10010=Fishermen's Bend BLM Recreation Management Area [OR] K-10011=OC
Woods Line State Trail State Trail [OR]

You can see that K-1 follows K-0999 (instead of K-) and K-1000 is
listed between between K-10009 and K-10010. This may make it hard to find
the correct park number when logging a QSO.

My proposed fix for this is to increase the reference numbers for parks in
(only) the USA from 4 to 5 digits. This means that:

K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

becomes:

K-1=Acadia National Park [ME]

If the cost of making this change is worse than the cost of having the
sorting by reference number be messed up, I can re-think this.

While fixing this, it exposed another problem that I did not anticipate.
When the POTA program started, parks in the USA were given reference numbers
beginning KFF-, such as this:

KFF-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

At some point in the program, they changed all the reference numbers to use
K- instead:

K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

I thought I had changed the Custom Awards database for this, but I did not.
I would like to make this change now. However, each user will need to run a
Multiple QSO operation, Check Custom Awards, to map the old KFF- reference
numbers to the new K- reference numbers. If you do this correctly, it won't
affect any other Custom Awards that you may track in DX4WIN. I will send
more details when I release the new Custom Awards database.

For users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier:

1. I can not change the reference numbers from KFF- to K- for users of
DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier because there is no multiple QSO operation to do to
that.

2. For the 5-digit parks in the USA, instead of KFF-1, they will look
like KF-1. That is because DX4WIN only supports up to 8 characters for
a custom award reference number, and KFF-1 would be
9 characters, or one too many. This limitation was fixed in DX4WIN 9.x.

So for people who track the Parks on the Air custom award in DX4WIN 9.x,
which of the following do you prefer?

Proposal #1 - leave the 4-digit reference numbers for USA as they are today.
Add the new 5-digit reference numbers, knowing that sorting by reference
number will not be quite right.

Proposal #2 - convert all existing 4-digit reference numbers for USA parks
to 5-digits. This fixes the sorting, but will require an extra leading 0 to
find a park, for example, K-1234

[Dx4win] Custom Award database update to fix Parks on the Air (POTA)

2023-10-30 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Hi Folks,

If you are not tracking the Parks on the Air (POTA) Custom Award in
DX4WIN, you can skip this message. The following mainly applies to
users of DX4WIN 9.x.

PLEASE SEE THE QUESTIONS AT THE END. I do not want to make a change
that is going to hurt more people than it helps!!

The POTA group started issuing 5-digit reference numbers for parks in the USA:

K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]

This causes a problem in DX4WIN because Custom Award reference numbers
are sorted strictly alphabetically. This means that these new park
numbers will get sorted like the following:

K-0999=Illini State Park [IL]
K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]
K-10001=Jewell Meadows State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]
K-10002=Ladd Marsh State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]
K-10003=Phillip W. Schneider State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR]
K-10004=Bob Pyle Marsh Wildlife Management Area [IA]
...
K-10008=Klamath Hills BLM Recreation Management Area [OR]
K-10009=Row River National Recreation Trail [OR]
K-1000=Illinois Beach State Park [IL]
K-10010=Fishermen's Bend BLM Recreation Management Area [OR]
K-10011=OC Woods Line State Trail State Trail [OR]

You can see that K-1 follows K-0999 (instead of K-) and K-1000
is listed between between K-10009 and K-10010. This may make it hard
to find the correct park number when logging a QSO.

My proposed fix for this is to increase the reference numbers for
parks in (only) the USA from 4 to 5 digits. This means that:

K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

becomes:

K-1=Acadia National Park [ME]

If the cost of making this change is worse than the cost of having the
sorting by reference number be messed up, I can re-think this.

While fixing this, it exposed another problem that I did not
anticipate. When the POTA program started, parks in the USA were
given reference numbers beginning KFF-, such as this:

KFF-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

At some point in the program, they changed all the reference numbers
to use K- instead:

K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME]

I thought I had changed the Custom Awards database for this, but I did
not. I would like to make this change now. However, each user will
need to run a Multiple QSO operation, Check Custom Awards, to map the
old KFF- reference numbers to the new K- reference numbers. If you do
this correctly, it won't affect any other Custom Awards that you may
track in DX4WIN. I will send more details when I release the new
Custom Awards database.

For users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier:

1. I can not change the reference numbers from KFF- to K- for users
of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier because there is no multiple QSO operation
to do to that.

2. For the 5-digit parks in the USA, instead of KFF-1, they will
look like KF-1. That is because DX4WIN only supports up to 8
characters for a custom award reference number, and KFF-1 would be
9 characters, or one too many. This limitation was fixed in DX4WIN
9.x.

So for people who track the Parks on the Air custom award in DX4WIN
9.x, which of the following do you prefer?

Proposal #1 - leave the 4-digit reference numbers for USA as they are
today. Add the new 5-digit reference numbers, knowing that sorting by
reference number will not be quite right.

Proposal #2 - convert all existing 4-digit reference numbers for USA
parks to 5-digits. This fixes the sorting, but will require an extra
leading 0 to find a park, for example, K-1234

Verified that this works correctly as far as I can tell.

Are you using version 9.09 of DX4WIN to test this?

Re: [Dx4win] Custom Award

2020-01-19 Thread Luc
Thanks Mike for your quick response.
I had already tried F2 and every time I do it, it doesn't change, but the
sorted by Date screen goes blank, everything disappears. I don't know if
it's a problem of mine or it happens to everyone.
Mike, could you try it with that diploma to see if the same thing happens
to you?
Thank you.

Hello Luc,

Yes, it can be done.

Open the Custom Award Value window and type F1
In the new window, typing F2 switches the order between the city name and
the numerical reference number. This works for most any custom award.

Is there any possibility that the search can be done by numerical reference

Because when a QSL appears DME 36021, and not the name of the Municipality,
looking for it between 8116 3 entries becomes very laborious.
Jim, is there any possibility of being able to select the search? either by

[Dx4win] Custom Award Value - 1010 award

2017-10-25 Thread Ernie Walls
I am not sure if this has been reported before, and if it has please forgive me.

Like what happened with the EPC award, when I tried to fill the data (1010
membership number) into the Custom Award Value box DX4Win simply refuses to do
so. Nothing happens!

My standard question, is this me? Or is there a bug in there?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: [Dx4win] Custom award migration to DX4WIN 9.01

2017-10-20 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
When migrating custom awards, I found it convenient to filter by country and
do them one at a time. Filter (F8) for DL to do all the German DOKs, etc.
That way, the number of AWDERR messages isn't so overwhelming.

Subject: [Dx4win] Custom award migration to DX4WIN 9.01

As Paul mentioned in his release announcement, the custom awards
database has undergone some changes. Some awards were re-named, and
there were some changes to the custom award values. Note that in the
QSO window, the Custom award and Custom award value fields show the
abbreviations, not the full names. You can do a custom award report
to see the full names.

If you are tracking custom awards in DX4WIN, you should probably
perform a migration. This will result in changes to your log, so make
sure to save the changes if you are satisfied with the migration.

QSO | Multiple QSO Operations | Check Custom Awards

You will get a prompt like the following:

Checking Custom Award for 153811 QSOs
Are you sure

Click Yes. When it is done, you may see something like the following:

One Custom Award value could not be converted
Look for AWDERR: in the QSO notes field

These are examples of some of the error messages you see in the "Notes
for this QSO" field:

AWDERR: Awd=WLHA AwdV=0029 Msg=Bad award value2
AWDERR: Awd=ARLH AwdV=GUA 005 Msg=QSO not good for award2

The first message means the abbreviation for the custom award value
was not recognized.

The second message means that the QSO was made before the award start
date, or after the award end date.

If you find any such AWDERR messages in error, please let me know and
I'll update the database.

[Dx4win] Custom Award Value ??

2017-04-05 Thread Mike Rhodes
Am I missing something? I would expect that when I choose a custom
award name and then go to enter the callsign of the claimed station, I
could type the call and a progressive search would happen. However, that
is not the case, at least for me. It only searches on the first
character of the callsigns. Am I doing something wrong or is that the
nature of the beast?
If that is the nature of the beast, a progressive search there would
be high on my list of future upgrades (along with hooks to connect to
external programs such as flDigi, etc.).

[Dx4win] Custom Award

I have written several Custom Awards into the program.
Very easy to do.

I wonder if there is a way that I can enter a letter into

there are a few awards that have letters with their number.

Thanks in advance!!

I don't know what it's supposed to do either. Nothing happens on mine,
but something *does* happen in 7.07 (what happens exactly isn't very
useful, however). Maybe some functionality got lost in the transition
to Version 8

Paul, when I right-click inside the IOTA Island field, I get a bunch
of choices that seem irrelevant to DX4WIN. Might be worth looking at
this also.

2009-11-10 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Branko,

A Click (not a right click) in the Custom award field will list the
values allowed there (depends on band / mode / prefix)

After pressing F8 (search) same thing happens; it shows a list of all
awards. Depending on the award selected, you can added an additional
search for the award value using a Click in the custom award value field.

Just wondering if anyone made a new custom award field with two value
fields?

I made a new custom award field for FISTS and I have the one value field but
I would like to have another value field.

Sorry, Ron. I don't think this can be done in DX4WIN. What exactly are
you trying to do?

[Dx4win] Custom Award WAE-CW Problem

2006-04-26 Thread Joseph Young
DX4Win 7.01. I am making entries for the WAE CW award. The first two
on the list are
1A0 and 3A. Those two were found in the Custom Award Value drop down
list in the QSO
Window and were entered and recorded. Next is 4J1. I entered 4J1FS
and found that in the
Custom Award drop down list in the QSO Window there is no WAE CW
award to be selected.
That means that I am unable to proceed to the Value List to enter MVI.
Thanks for any help.

[Dx4win] Custom Award WAE-CW Problem

2006-04-26 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Which country file are you using, Joe? The prefix was changed to R1MV a year
or two ago. Maybe the program is hard-coded and still thinks the prefix should
be 4J1.

Help!! Want to separate my log by the year and save each as a separate file on
a floppy disc. Thus
having several small files viruses one large file.
Have tried setting the qso range and using the filters to isolate part of the
log, say for the year
2005. It works to a point but when I try to save it to a floppy the entire log
file is saved.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the help de VE3AD

[Dx4win] Custom Award WAE-CW Problem

2006-04-26 Thread Isidro Acosta Hernández
Hi to all...

Probably it will be necessary to change the 4J1 entry to R1MV in the
dx4win.awd file, so it matches to the countries database.

Saving always saves the whole log.

What you want to do is EXPORT those parts of your log into DX4WIN#
format. Then you can make new .DXL files and import the .DXQ files.

Perfecto, Isidro. That is how to fix it. There
are several places in the .AWD file where 4J1 should be changed to R1M.

[Dx4win] Custom Award

2003-06-17 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi,
I have another problem!!!

I am trying to set up a 'Worked All Pacific' award.

I have added the text to the end of the dx4win.awd file in the 'save'
directory. When I look for the award in the Reports\custom the award is listed
'Worked all Pacific'. I click on the name and get a frame with the single line
entry showing 'Nr Award Val callsignDATE BAND STATUS'

I think I am not doing something or doing something wrong.
