[Dx4win] FT8 integration just like MMTY

2021-02-19 Thread henrikweiss2
Hi,

Since FT8 has become so popular - and its added to the mode selection list,
are there any plans to integrate operational software with DX4WIN just as
MMTY?

Would be a great feature and make logging much more streamlining in my
opinion.

Also future proving DX4WIN in the market.

I think it is the best logging software I have tried.

Another trick is to keep counting only ft8 modes (file>awards>dxcc>modes
group - keep only ft8 from digi modes - uncheck rtty, psk, etc). This
way you have only ft8 counts for digital dxcc and you can see your totals

FT8 QSOs into a separate log to see what you want.

Using F8, search your log for Mode=FT8. Then use File | Import/Export
to export the search results to an ADIF file.

Use File | New in DX4WIN to create a new, empty log file. Give it a
temporary name, definitely NOT the same name as your main logbook.
Then import those FT8 QSOs from the previous step into this new log.

From there, you can do a DXCC report to see how many DXCC entities you

have worked on FT8.

The same goes for FT4, but for the F8 search, you need to search for
Mode=MFSK and Submode=FT4.

If you want to see combined DXCC statistics for both FT4 and FT8,
export the QSOs made with those two modes separately, then import both
FT4 and FT8 ADIF files into the same empty DX4WIN log.

I just worked my first FT4 QSO this morning local time.

In WSJT-X the ADIF file is like this:
E51WL MFSK FT4

In DX4WIN:
E51WL MFSK FT4

The ADIF file is contain the same modes.

Re: [Dx4win] FT8

2017-12-26 Thread Dan Violette
You must have DX4WIN V9 to have the FT8 mode included. Which version do you
have? There is a work around for V8:

Set those QSOs to an unused mode like "TOR" and then update TQSL settings to
convert TOR to FT8 upon upload to LoTW - OR - edit the ADIF from TOR to FT8
before upload. Note if you use another mode and edit the ADIF that the length
of the MODE field is 3 when FT8 is used. Later when you upgrade, you can
convert all 'TOR' QSOs easily to 'FT8'.

Just to clarify...

When I import my WSJT-X ADIF file (log), and DX4WIN prompts for
"Options for duplicate QSOs", I choose "Imported QSO is ignored."
This means that any FT8 QSOs I have already imported into DX4WIN from
that log will be ignored - only the new ones will be imported.

Two improvements were made for DX4WIN 9.01:

1. DX4WIN 9.01 remembers the duplicate QSO selection for the next import.

2. DX4WIN 9.01 has an 'X' in the upper-right corner of the
Import/Export filters window,
which makes it easier to exit than using File | Exit (one click
instead of two).

Also, if DX4WIN has trouble finding your WSJT-X log, by default it is
located in this directory:

%localappdata%\WSJT-X

I typically type in the %localappdata% part then double-click on the
WSJT-X directory icon when it appears.

DX4WIN will remember the last import location, so if the last thing
you did was import a WSJT-X log, you should already be in the correct
directory to import it again with new QSOs.

If your radio interface is active, then this is the expected behavior,
assuming the radio is set to USB or LSB to make FT8 QSOs. DX4WIN
always tries to use the selected radio mode if the radio interface is
active.  This would have also been true for RTTY if you were using
AFSK keying.  In other words, it's not something new, but perhaps
something that could be improved upon.

I find it easier to just do all my FT8 work in WSJT-X and periodically
import the ADIF file into DX4WIN.  I know that some people would like
to see things more integrated.

First, what option did you use on the Import as the option for
duplicates? If you used "Imported QSO is ignored" and you already had
those QSOs in your log, you'd need to pay attention to the display that
comes up that says how many were actually imported and how many were
ignored. For example, I just read in the WSJT-X ADIF file which has 866
QSOs in it and it said:

Import Finished

866 QSOs were read
[A bunch of other stuff]
866 Duplicate QSOs were processed

In that case, it didn't import anything because they were already there.

If you hadn't previously imported or otherwise entered them, I'd suggest
that you look at one QSO that you know is in there and see what the mode
is set to, we can then figure it out from there.

[Dx4win] FT8

2017-10-25 Thread W9RPM
Hi, Do I have to do something in V9.01 when I click on an FT8 spot in
the DX spots window? The Radio will go to the correct frequency and FT8
mode briefly, and then to SSB in the Mode window in the log window.
Also, clicking on an FT8 spot in 160, it does the same thing except the
rig goes to LSB. I am assuming this is going to be the case in the other
low bands.

Maybe just use the program without Rig control?

Thanks, John W9RPM

[Dx4win] FT8 to LOTW

2017-09-11 Thread PY2YP
The following procedure might interest to someone, so here it goes. I
use to log all my FT8 QSOs as JT65A once I've never worked any QSO on
this mode. In order to upload the FT8 QSOs properly, logged as JT65A, I
create a mapping on the TQSL that will change the JT65A to FT8 and then
upload it without having to change the ADIF file. Mapping means changing
the ADIF on the fly, so no other action will be required.

To modify the TQSL open it and go to FILE | DISPLAY OR MODIFY
PREFERENCES, next open ADIF Modes tab and press Add... scroll down the
Resulting TQSL mode window and find out FT8, click once over it and type
JT65A into the ADIF Mode box now press OK and it's done.

This procedure may be needed again in case of either TQSL update or new
configuration file.

just an opinion as an old programmer (dos era). It is not an easy and
simple procedure always to add something new in a database. The most
important is to keep the database reliable. We need to get reliable
results for our awards, and keep our qsos safe. It seems dangerous to me
when everyone has the ability to add a field and "works" with the
database. Anyway we 'll see what Paul will do...

Hopefully, the new release will allow the end user to setup new modes or at
the very least to allow new modes to be setup in the Data Updater program.

Re: [Dx4win] FT8 LOTW confirmation downloads

2017-08-16 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
They do not show as confirmed when you download them. You will need to look
at the lotwreport.notfound file and change each one individually. It
doesn't take too long unless you have a ton of FT8 QSOs.

I see some interesting ways to use DX4Win ,ie log FT8 as TOR and convert TOR
to FT8 in the TQSL file. I have one question about this method. When you
download the LOTW QSL's, how are these confirmed FT8 QSO's identified as
"confirmed" in the DX4WIN program as the LOTW download shows the mode of FT8
and DX4WIN shows the mode of TOR?

Bud, I don't recommend doing this. First of all, 8.05 supports JT65.
There is no need to import it as a different mode. Otherwise, when
exported and uploaded to LoTW, the QSO will not match.

My suggestion (as others have suggested) is to import FT8 as some mode
you never use, like AMTOR. Then when the next version of DX4WIN is
released, change all your AMTOR QSOs to FT8.

If you have an ADIF file, you can modify the MODE:# field for each
QSO, changing it to some other value. Make sure # corresponds to the
# of characters in the mode, for example:

FT8 => AMTOR

FT8 imports to SSB - Not OK.
