Re: [Dx4win] Import of ADIF "Comment" field - answered

2018-07-03 Thread Paul Ferguson
Dave,

Thanks. I was not aware of the option in WSJT to not put db reports
into the comments field.

One other thing to consider is that when you log a WSJT contact, you
can type something into the WSJT "comments" part of the log entry. I
think this field is more useful if applied to the QSO and not to the
Callsign. The ADIF spec says it is about the QSO.

I think DX4WIN should conform to the ADIF spec and change to import the
comments field into QSO Notes in the DX4win log.

Re: [Dx4win] Import of ADIF "Comment" field - answered

2018-07-03 Thread John, K9EL
I believe that option was put in WSJT-X to help people if their logging
program could not handle FT8 mode and FT8 style signal reports. Use it if
you do not have Version 9 of DX4Win.

Exactly! I did the same.

2018-07-02 Thread N4QS, Dave Perry
Paul,
This used to bother me. I solved the problem by unchecking the "db reports
to comments" box under the Reporting tab in Settings within WSJT-X. By
doing that, nothing is saved to the comments field in the ADIF file and thus
nothing gets imported into the Call Sign Notes field in DX4WIN.

Len (K1NU) noted that when a WSJT log is imported into DX4WIN, DX4WIN puts
the contents of the field of the WSJT log into the DX4WIN
"Callsign Notes" field.

What is in the WSJT field is usually the mode and signal reports
such as "FT8 Sent: +01 Rcvd: +00". This is clearly QSO-related and not
Callsign-related information.

When I look at an ADIF specification, it says the field is a
Comment field for the QSO (not for the Callsign).

I do not know why WSJT decided to put the mode and signal reports in the
field because other fields already contain the mode and signal
reports. DX4win imports these mode and signal report fields into the proper
parts of the DX4WIN log.

The problem with importing the field into the DX4WIN Callsign
Notes is when you work a station multiple times. With each repeat QSO,
QSO-related info is appended to what is already in Callsign Notes. With many
QSOs, Callsign Notes gets pretty mucked-up with info that does not belong
there.

I would like to see DX4WIN make a change so that WSJT field is
put into DX4WIN Callsign Notes.
