[Dx4win] Radio Time out Issues
Gentlemen, I am running a Flex5000A , DDUTIL Program by K5FR and DX4WIN v8.05. The problem is the radio and DX4WIN keep loosing connection. DX4WIN freezes up right in the heat of a CW or Phone DX Contest (GRR) the finally un freezes. I then can go to the main tab RADIO and click Start Radio and all is well for a while. DX4WIN is set for polling at 5000 with max try set at 6. DDUTIL polling is set for 500. I am running a quad core computer with WIN7 64 bit with 8 gig of ram. HRD and other logging programs operate flawlessly. Any suggestions or conversations appreciated. 73 Jon NQ4A __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

It's because Windows is shutting the port off as a power saving measure, disconnecting the radio. Here's a couple of messages from the list that have a potential solution. From Bud, N7CW: Your computer may be putting the USB port to sleep. In Windows 7 try this: Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options. Next to Recommended Settings, select Change Plan Settings. Then click Change Advanced Power Settings. Click the + next to USB Settings. Click the + next to USB Selective Suspend Setting. If you click on the Setting: Enable, you will get a drop down box that allows you to change it to Disable. From Joe, W4TV: I addition to what Bud has suggested, right click on the Computer icon, Select Properties, click on Device Manager, Open Universal Serial Bus controllers, select *each* USB Root Hub and Generic USB Hub entry, select the Power Management tab and *uncheck* the box marked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Apparently you need to follow both sets of steps to stop Windows from shutting down the USB port. 73, -Rick -- Rick Murphy, CISSP-ISSAP, K1MU/4, Annandale VA USA __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Radio Time out Issues
What are you using for a data rate between DX4WIN and DDUtil? I had to slow mine down to 9600 or so.
