So what's the procedure to do an in-place upgrade using the update
system? Is it possible at all or do I have to pull out the CD drive
again to perform the upgrade?

What about an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 using efw-upgrade :)
You can avoid using sip proxy but you must use 5060 and only 5060 for
outgoing registration.
If you are going to use a different destination port for your sip
provider it won't work because netfilter won't analyse the sip traffic
and won't be able to allow rtp traffic.

I think the best way to use new version, is install a fresh version and
restore the backup from older version. I did this and works very fine.
You can restore all data from 2.2 to 2.3 version.

The ESi Phone system isn't primarily concerned with SIP port 5060 traffic
that I can see. The UDP ports involved are UDP 59002, and 59161-59163.
Once I turned QoS off in the phone system, everything began working as it

Gmail is known for marking messages from unknown boxes as Spam. I had to
manually add rules to my Inbox to prevent messages coming from my home
server to be sent to Spam.
