[Elecraft] 1N5711 diodes in directional coupler

2004-08-08 Thread Indy
These are used in the directional coupler of the K2, KPA, and KAT-100. I have lost these to ESD more than once. Several questions; Gary says that 1N5711's give more accurate readings than lessor diodes such as the 1N4148... question; how much more accurate, and how critical is this accuracy?

Hello Fred! Gary says that 1N5711's give more accurate readings than lessor diodes such as the 1N4148... question; how much more accurate, and how critical is this accuracy? Would the 1N4148 be more, less, or the same susceptability to ESD? The 1N5711 is a Shottky barrier diode; the

[Elecraft] K-2 Control Board Resistance Checks Fail

2004-08-08 Thread Brian Wruble
Hi all: I am assembling K-2 S/N 4397. I have just completed the Control Board. Two of the resistance checks fail. The resistance between the collectors of both Q1 and Q2 to ground measure 454 K each. They are supposed to show resistance 1meg to ground. I have checked resistor network RP1.

2004-08-08 Thread Don Brown
Hi Try reversing the ohmmeter leads or changing ranges and see if the readings look better. If not I wouldn't worry about it. You are mainly looking for gross errors like very low readings or shorts. Some DVM ohms ranges will turn on semiconductors in the circuits and that will give the

The new standard version of the KSB2 filter is the same as my 2.2 kHz design. Elecraft measures the bandwidth to the 6 dB points, so they quote the bandwidth as 2.3 kHz. If you want to use my 2.5 kHz bandwidth design, you now only have to change 4 capacitor values. -John KI6WX - Original

Another clue that this is happening (charging capacitive loads, etc.) is that the reading will be sliding, drifting while you are watching it. If you see this, reverse the leads. Bob N4HY -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Brian Wruble Sent:

Re: [Elecraft] 1N5711 diodes in directional coupler

2004-08-08 Thread Jack Brindle
I agree with Lyle's discussion on this. The reason for using 1N5711s is to get low power accuracy. If you are running high power only, then you probably could get by with 1N4148s in the directional coupler, sacrificing low power operation. If you really want to replace them today, you could
