Hi Guys,
Have almost completed KX1 #770.
Everything is fine so far. My question is with the KXAT1 installed, how do I
get to trimmer 20A on the KX1 board?
In the KXB30 manual, page 7, last step it says to re-align rcvr on 20 mtrs.
Thanks,

Hello guys, sorry for the long absence. Due to security considerations here
in Iraq I have been unable to participate in the Eurasian ECN. I hope that
others have been filling in and having fun. It does not seem that things
will change this week so I may not be able to make it once again. If
Hi,
I am asking for feedback from SSB operators on VOX operation on the K2.
a) Do you use VOX ?
b) If not, why not ?
T.I.A. If I receive enough replies, more questions will follow !

Hi everyone, I am reading my manual and found on side 80 that if you use
a external battery to my k2 you have to disable the int battery on the int
switch but when
you use the internal you can have a powersupply attached and the int battery
enable to recharge the int battery
am I correct ?
Simply remove your kxat1, re-jumper pins 1 and 3 of j7 near the antenna jack,
and follow the Receiver Alignment procedure outlined on p45 of your kx1 manual.
Then when this is doen, re-install your kxat1.

Hi Stewart,
Have occasionally used VOX with my K2/100 ( 3255 ) for ragchewing and it
seems to be OK - but would like an Anti VOX in there. Normally use PTT
(Foot switch) in say a pile up. Just habit. Use Heil Pro-set Plus straight
in - AF pre-amp not required on any band.
Hope that this helps.
You are correct.
The power supply must be about 14.2 volts because of the diode protection
in the rig. You loose some voltage across it.
Internal battery will not discharge to the power supply because of the diode.

Hello all

during recieve alignment 80 meters is very low and l3

Hi Tom,
Have been in touch with Kevin ( KD5ONS ) , and it seems that the first ECN
signal that I heard last weekend on 7045 MHz was indeed from Kevin.
Strange thing was that you and Kevin were the same strength. give or take.
Guess Kevin got up to speed coming down the eastern side of the R.
Stewart,
I seldom use VOX because of a slight delay in initial response which
results in missed words at the start of transmission. I have the latest
firmware which is designed to help this problem, still not fast enough.
I also do not use VOX when using my Kenwood TS-850S/AT, just don't like
I have a frequency standard by W8DIZ that generates
a signal at 10MHz, 5MHz and 2.5 MHz. Is there a way
to use this for accurate calibration of the receiver
in a 20/40M K1?

There seems to be room for a buffering speech processor that triggers
the vox when it is sure you are speaking and plays back the preceeding
hundred milliseconds, to avoid clipping the first syllable. For extrra
credit, resample and speed up to avoid moving the delay to the end.

I bought one at a hamfest 20 years ago. I've still got it, but in storage
somewhere.
It's pretty large for its power level (10 watts, IIRC).
It should be easy to work on, since there are no ICs, and most of the PCBs

I am asking for feedback from SSB operators on VOX operation on the K2.
a) Do you use VOX ?
Yes, about 95% of the time when running SSB. The microphone I use is a
homebrew boom-set that has an electret element. It has plenty of output and
triggers the VOX quickly and reliably.

The VOX can be entertaining. A few months ago in the 20m CW band I heard a
telephone ringing. That can happen if you get up and leave without turning
it off.

Only if it has locked multivibrator circuitry in it to give you precision
markers
at 100 Khz intervals. Better yet 10 and 1 khz intervals. Usually it is easy
to add
a 'divide by 10' circuit externally using a common CMOS chip to get 1 mhz
markers.
Add another one after that and get 100 khz

I think it's fascinating! Every time this subject comes up, we are off
