Hello,
I plan on operating the QRPTTF 2005 from a railroad on the Appalachian
Trail today. The weather forecast is rain and a chance of thunderstorms so I
am not sure how long I will be out on the trail.
The Reading and Northern RR Co. runs on the old Reading RR lines.
Unfortunately the
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your detailed input on the K2. I personally have built 2 of them,
the first in 2001 and the 2nd a couple of months ago sn 4618.
I agree 100% with you about the Rx being wonderful, but even in the current
revised K2s, needs some refinement, mostly getting rid of the many Rx
As for the radio being in a kit form, that is actually a HUGE selling
point, regardless of the time and effort required to build it since
all hams that I have met so far would really love to be able to build
their radios instead of buying a ready made appliance, provided that

In my location, the K2 was unusable without the KNB2, so I'd get it in

I've noticed the majority of K2s seem to be built with the NB. I don't
have it, and since I don't seem to be having any man-made noise problems

I had my KX-1 receiver working beautifully through the first 2 stages (up
through getting the receiver to work), then I added the last components -
for the transmitter. I turned it on to complete Test III, and there was no
received signal. Everything but the RF Gain control works. The audio gain
I seem to be a hybrid ham. I like to tinker, build and experiment, but I
don't like building kits. I recently built a K1 (SN1976) to see if I'd like
to build a K2. I discovered I didn't like kit building. But I love the K1
and decided to buy a K2 already built that I am VERY happy with. But MOST
I believe that the J309 is pretty much interchangeable with a J310 or
MRF102. At least I've done this with no change in other circuits and
operation did not seem to suffer

I live it with lots of noise. But I did not get the NB for my K1 which is
only used in the field where it is so quiet I sometimes think my radio has
died.
I'd say, get it without the NB and add it later if the noise in
I've been playing around with the filter setup in my

Has anyone had any luck getting the difference in

I'd really like it to be within 10Hz if possible.

Hello,
The wx channel showed no rain before I went out, but when I got there the
rain was heavy. The wx conditions did not allow me to put the VBWFPA antenna
up so I had to use the Hustler mobile antenna. I made a total of 3 QSO's all
on 20 meters. Band conditions and location between the

Hey guys,
Recently somebody was nice enough to post information about some LCD front
panel meters he found on internet (Thanks!!!). I thought that such meters
will be a nice addition to my KPA/KAT in EC2.
The front panel looks empty and it is only occupied by the LED indicators at

A few weeks back I completed K2 s/n 4846 including
most of the popular options. The performance compared
favorably with my Omni 6+. I enjoyed the experience so
much I decided to build a KX1 (s/n ) with ant
tuner , 30 M paddle key. I love the performance and
size, I'm hooked. Back to cw and

Well, with my head hanging low and a sheepish look on my face...I can

some assistance yesterday with signal tracing in order to find where the
signal was being lost. After reading some replys, *trying* to read and
I made a grand total of 3 contacts - all on 20M - all in the same state.
The QTH was home. The bands of interest all seemed pretty punk. Signals
were weak and watery.
I was tempted to take my N gauge train station; blow the dust off of it and
put it on top of the K2. But that seemed a little
I told my dad I was planning on building an HF rig (K2). At

Now I think he is planning to have me commited. I'll show him!

Before I solder the board in my K2...
My thermistor in my K2 PLL upgrade looks deformed (with a hole in it's
side?)
is it supposed to look like this?

I am hoping someone can direct me to a problem that just showed up in my

I have the four band filter, antenna tuner and noise blanker. The radio
has always worked. Perfect. Every time from the minute I completed it
until today when I decided to give it a try. I have been
Howdy Folks,
First off thanks for the fun on QRPTTF today. Pat and I taught the
last session of ARECC level 3 and drove home. Got a sandwich on the way
and stopped near downtown Buxton. I met up with my cohort with my rig and
gear to hook up with his two rigs and sundry other bits of

Looks like stencils will help with SMD soldering. Even double sided
boards.

Just got back to Tulsa from Ozarkcon 2005 in Joplin.
Great two days of QRP fun.
W0EB showed the K2 and T1 and did a great job answering Elecraft questions.
