Hi Ed,
Have a look at the Summits on the Air (Sota) web site in the UK who have had
a summits activation scheme in operation for a number of years which is now
starting to be taken up internationally:

Hi all,
I've just got through to the end of the K1 assembly and came up with a
couple of problems - hopefully someone can help point me in the right
direction.
On page 46 of the K1 manual, there's a number of DC voltage tests as
part of the RF board Tx alignment and test. I got some

For those of you who miss indicator lights on the K2 front panel, I have now
been able to add a third LED on mine. I had one for the CW zero-beat
indicator in the SPOT button, one for the RIT/XIT/SPlit in the SPLIT button
and now also have one for the audio filter in the XFIL/AFIL button.
The

Is there anyone who know articles or ideas about K2 FSK mod ?
Most rigs today do not produce true FSK. That is, they don't shift the
carrier frequency. Instead, they operate in Single Sideband mode and an
external frequency shift keyer
Hi Ron and others,
As I very much like to do EME and MS on 144 MHz my RF-power there is higher
than average to say the least hi! So as to reduce chances for LFD etc, I
decided that I should use FSK CW. It had to be FSK without phasejumps, so
SSB-FSK was found to be not suitable.
At the time I

I'm looking for advice/experince again. I don't really work much on either 17
or 15, so I would like some advice. The best unsolicited advice has said:
1) There is a lot of local activity (depending on your locality) on 17 on SSB.
Can the same be said about CW?
2) 15m is an excellent DX band
David,
my experience is that 17 is a very fine band, cw as well as ssb.
I really like it because a lot of times, when 15 is not open, 17 is
going like gang busters; anytime 20 sounds good, try 17; its great; in
fact I bought the extra 2 bands for my 4 band K1, to add 80 and 17. If
one could
Dave,
One thing to remember is that if you operate any of the contest with your K1
you are taking away a band option if you go with 17 meters. No contest
allows 17 meter operation---all include 15 meters. This is true for the
purely qrp events i.e. qrp to the field, zombie hunt, etc.
If these

Here - here. Very similar to 15 - but the people you find there seem to
be more civilised (no nutters - but give it time)
Always seems busiest here - when there is a BIG Competition on, but I
personally would not give it up

If these events don't appeal to you---17 meters would probably be your best
choice
No contests here.

I would go with 15M, especially if you have any interest in contests or
awards. While 15M is quiet right now, it won't be too long before things
will be hopping.

Sent: Sunday,
Today I did, with two OM friends, a great outdoor on top of Mount
Hereford in FN45. I used my K2 SSB at 12W with my MP-1 antenna. Many
good contacts, and one in particular, OE9MON/P9 in Austria !!! The
guy was mobile and me QRP... what a good experience with my K2 again !!!
Here a few
Hi,
I need some advice on a wire beam I built for field day and special
events. It has two fiberglass poles 22' long spaced 45' with a wire
Moxon for 40 M on the outside and a two element 20 meter beam between
the 40 meter Moxon. It has there is little interaction between the
beams either
I did this small mod to power the KAT100 from my K2/100, to simplify wiring
when operating portable. I added a miniature slide switch across D10 on the
main K2 board. Closing the slideswitch makes the original K2 12V socket
into an aux 12V output. A short cable (4) with a power plug on each
Set it up for 17. If you don't like it, change it to 15. No big deal.
I set mine up for 17 initially, but I didn't hear a single CW qso in a month
of listening, though I heard a total of two SSB qsos on another rig. In 15
or 20 minutes, I converted it to 15 meters. It's what works for you that
Tnx for the photos Jean-Francois! It's OT, but those blocks near the marker
look too square to be natural. Was there a Roman Ham up there running QRP
with a K2 Gladius Minimus a couple of thousand years ago?

Howdy Folks
Good news and bad news,Good news first,I just completed K2 4988 and all
appears well.
Now the bad news, while finishing up 4988 I transmitted into the my
Elecraft N-Gen noise generator, and (took it out),Im pretty sure U1
(MAR-1MMIC) was the first thing to go,but what about the
17 meters is only nice if you are NOT a contester. More activity
is usually on 15 meters.
I tried 17 meters and quickly changed to 15 as more going on there
and you can use it for 15 meter QRP nets and contests.
Take your pick.

Wow!! After I greeted Tom and Curt checked in my first CQ was followed by
a wall of sound! I caught two calls and began with Ray and Dick. The
band was wide open to at least as far as New Zealand. Mike made sure he
contacted both Tom and I during the net. I may have missed one or two
