Hello,
Back in December 2005 a reporter with her last name Morse e-mailed me about
the Polar Bear Club that we started last year. She wanted to do an article
for the local paper she work at about Ham Radio and the Polar Bear group.
She came out to the Appalachian trail with us on a cold
Help. I just installed the 3080 module in my KX1 and I only get 30m
- no 80. I have firmware version 1.02, but when i cycle through band
selection, I never see 80m. Any suggestions?

Thom,
Sorry for the delay in reply. I'm catching up on a bunch of email from
several email lists...
The author advocates using a 1/4 wave (less 5%) as a counterpoise for this
antenna.
I agree: this does sound a lot like the W3EDP antenna, which is described
in Practical Wire Antennas, pg 33

Hello everybody,
I'm in the process of slowly building a 3-band version of the KX1. I'm having a
lot of fun and everything is going well. It was especially exciting to hear
actual signals today during the initial receiver alignment.
I have a quick question about the 20 meter alignment. I was
Hi Guys,
I was given a Weller DS801 desoldering station a while back which
has never worked but looks brand new. . It sucks fine (over here in the
motherland this does not mean it is bad) but the tip does not come up to
temperature. At a guess the element in the iron has gone or the
Paul,
It is not likely a problem. I have found the 20A trimmer peak much more
defined than the 20B peak.

Greetings!
First time K2 builder(S/N 5462)!
I'm having a slight problem aligning the I.F. amplifier.
The instructions indicate that the 7000 kHz signal will yield best signal
strength and lowest noise at about 1 to 1.5 turns below the top of the can.
However, the best 7000 khz signal
Tod ... I had the same problem so I went back and read the book again. The
30 and 80 meter bands have to be turned on in the set-up before it will show
up as a selectable band. The 80 meter activation is the last sentence in
Step 1 of the Revision 1.02 Firmware new features.
I missed that last
Michael,
Likely not a problem at all - it sounds like things are within the realm of
normalcy.
The peak on L34 is VERY broad - and that usually means that it is not
super-critical. The proper setting is for the best signal to noise ratio,
and that can vary from the actual peak. For the time
All,
Some time ago - late 2003! - I put my KPA100 and KAT100 into an EC2. I
bought the KAT100 with the EC2 panels. I'm more than pleased with the
result, but being busy, I've only just realised that the left over panels
provide almost all of an EC2. That is, I have the rear, front and top

Sooo, anyone willing to offer opinions?
Thanks to everyone who responded on the list and to the at least as many
who responded privately. Boy oh boy, this will require some
thought...or blindfold
Visit a friend that has a Hexkey. Where are you located?

Good Evening,
I hope you all had a good day. I got a lot of chores done due to the
weather we had today. Light rain on and off allowed me to burn a lot of
brush and get the chimney cleaned. The rain settled the dust and allowed
me to burn without worrying about the nearby slash.
