Sara The Kenwood MC-43S is a good microphone, however you said for Contests / Dxpeditions. It is very difficult to either keep a log sheet with pen or pencil, or to type on the keyboard and picking up the microphone on every QSO. I would recommend one of the Heil Prosets, and the Heil

[Elecraft] XV50 TRANSVERTER - L17

2006-05-07 Thread Chris Page
Two questions about the XV50 transverter, please? 1. The Alignment and Test on Page 25 of the Owner's Manual says the core of L17 (along with L1, L10 and L11) should be removed and discarded as it will not be used. On the following page is a table telling you how to preset the slugs in the

[Elecraft] Parasitic oscillation

I built my K2 SN-4216 2 years ago and all seemed well for those 2 years. I had a couple of bumps in the road here and there, but nothing serious...nothing that was not easily resolved. I was a happy camper. I did find that my power adjustment on R26 was way off. I thought I had 100w

[Elecraft] K2/100 on VU4

Hi all, I just resturned yesterday from VU4 where we have been using (once again) several K2/100`s during the operations. It is always impressing how good these little rigs work. One fully loaded K2 (+ps, small amp) has been presented to a mainland VU ham (VU3RSB) so that he can go ahead

This is VERY easy to do. Elecraft has all the parts except the band crystal. I built an 80/160 meter board and it works exceptionally well. I'm sure the original person who did the mod will come forward and give you details. If not, I'll look it up in my archives. 73, Sandy W5TVW -

[Elecraft] Anyone ever run across this quirk?

2006-05-07 Thread Joseph Reed
I have a K2 which has a strange quirk, it has developed a thump when it switches from transmit to receive in cw when set for full QSK. Very annoying, and when trying to DX at fast cw speeds, I can't tell what the DX op is sending. However, if I change the T-R delay to .01 it doesn't appear.

2006-05-07 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
This issue was handled off-line. So, for any lurkers who may have the same question: 1) The tuning slug should be left in L17 on all transverters. 2) If, during alignment, it is found that maximum output is obtained with the slug out of the top of the coil, remove the slug completely. Ron

Hello Sara - I recommend the Kenwood MC-43S microphone. It plugs straight into the K2 microphone connector and gives excellent quality. The MC-43S has UP and DOWN buttons which, when used with the K2, changes between VFO A and B. This is very useful for contest working. I hope that helps.

Hi Sara I would second David's comment on the Kenwood MC-43S. In addition, the necessary links on the K2 are adjacent to each other for a Kenwood microphone so you can use computer jumpers rather than having to solder wires. The MC-43S is very good value, cost here in the UK is currently 17
