K2/100 #2548 made another trip to field day this year, at the N4N
field day site.
Ran into the same problem as last year. K2 was working the night
before, then in the morning I got INFO 080 upon switching it on. The
KAT100 wasn't recognized, either.
After leaving it switched on for about
KX1 SN: 1542 is a live and well. Putting out 4 watts on both 40 and 20 meters.
The unit worked the first time. It has the Elecraft Mojo as I worked UT4MF,
LY3M and UT5XS on 20 meters last night at 0200Z. Got 579 report from all
stations using a 80 Meter Center Fed Zepp fed with 440 ladder
Hi Doug,
My wife has a 50 Watt solar panel she uses for emergency power. They are
definitely not the transportable or affordable kind - unless you find one
taken out of commercial service and then they tend to be cheaper than buying
new small ones. She is a net control station and a local ARES

I wouldn't think there'd be any problem as long as it's working.
Sounds like Christine got the wrong spool of wire for a few KX1 paddle kits.

I use some of the panels from Harbor Freight. They are okay - have a
bunch of 5 watt panels and a few months ago I hooked up some of their
15W panels. Not sure how the 15s are gonna do yet, but after 5 years
outside in the Kansas City weather, the 5 watters are working - but
they need some work.
Well, thanks to great forbearance on my wife's part over this little
holiday vacation, K2 #5630 is coming right along. I finished up Part
1, and all the tests are just fine _except_ that I have no backlight.
The LCD reads fine, but there's no change in it or in the LED
brightness when I
What are the transmit/receive limits of the K2- is it ham bands only?
Thanks,

Oscar,
If you want to troubleshoot it, look at the schematic and follow the path
for the voltages applied to D2 and D3 with your DMM, you can approximate 1.5
to 2 volts drop through each LED if it is conducting.
The most likely thing is that you have failed to solder a connection, check

Jay,
My K2/100 #3255 can transmit / receive outside of the ham bands. I have not
checked the limits.

If you have not looked at this free program, you should. It gives you a
conventional audio spectrum display and a nice waterfall to boot. Controls
are easy, adjustable on the fly. Plus the site has a lot of nifty software
for SDR applications.

Basically it was DESIGNED to be really good at ham HF bands, nothing
more, nothing less.
There are several things limiting general coverage ability, but mostly:

Thanks very much to Don W3FPR and Jim W4ATK who pointed me on the
right path, and now all is well with the backlight. A few minutes
with my DMM isolated a cold joint on pin 17 of U3. It looked okay to
the eye, but I guess it was the result of trying to solder quickly
