This Tuesday evening, the North American QRP CW Club will be holding its
monthly sprint.
Here are the particulars:
Date and time:
Wednesday, Feb 14, 0130-0330 UTC
(Remember that's Tuesday evening here in the USA) That's 8:30 - 10:30
EST, 7:30 - 9:30 CST, 6:30 - 8:30 MST and 5:30 - 7:30 PST.
Hmm, interesting to note about the every 10 kHz. I have no such
problems here and wonder if others have noted the same that Jim has. I'd
be happy to conclude that my radio isn't broken if it doesn't pick up
those carriers, though, HI HI! I'll check it out again tonight but this

It could be an American frequency designation, just as 7040 kHz was
the American QRP frequency as well while the rest of the world was 7030
kHz (although according to QRP ARCI the transition has begun to 7030,
but I still find plenty of activity around 7040 anyway, at least when

I have the KBT2 battery mounting hardware for my K2, but so far no battery.
The Elecraft 2.9 AH gel-cel battery costs $30.00. Unless someone convinces
me, I don't see any point in transporting a battery across 9 time-zones,
when similar batteries seem to be available locally.
But that's the
Interesting that you mention the FM Broadcast band predominance of
commercials. They irritate me too, but I have settled on a local
non-commercial FM station here. They broadcast only classical music, but it
is listener supported and NO commercials and is available 24 hours a day.
BTW, if
This speaker jack problem applies only to basic K-2's...I assumed that Dohn was
talking about a basic K-2...The basic K-2 cover is not installed in a KPA-100
so the external speaker jack cannot cause a problem...I always use the external
speaker jack to obtain output to the computer sound card
Thanks for all the input on 160m operation! FWIW, the antenna I'm trying to
use is an 88 foot dipole in the inverted vee configuration with the apex at
about 45 feet. I know it's a pip-squeek of an antenna for the top band, but
I thought I'd give it a try.

The two classical stations that I listen to over the Internet are:
1. KWAX (www.kwax.com) from the University of Oregon. The UofO mascot
is the duck, so I love the play on words in their choice of callsign.
2. WKAR (www.wkar.org) from Michigan State University.
These two feeds are both 128
I kind of figured that. However, I think the problem lies in the front
headphone jack anyway. At least I can receive some audio for now by wearing
my headphones. If I unplug them though, there is no audio through the
speaker.
I think a swap out of the headphone jack is going to solve the
Hey, Mark.
I also hear a very weak carrier around 1830. There is a South American AM
station at 1820 that I hear when the band is open to my south. Other than
that, no birdies or other stuff.

Jerry,
I could be wrong but I think Dohn's problem is due to a faulty switch in the
headphone jack which if stuck 'open' prevents audio getting to the speaker
circuits.

Hello Sverre,
But that's the question, is a battery a battery? I can get a 2.6 Ah battery
with the same measurements for about $15.00 (NOK 90) from one vendor and I
can get another one for about $40.00 (NOK 260 - Asahi, Made in China). I
would guess that these batteries may have different life

That's part of your problem -- it's a lousy 160 antenna. 160 is a
band that sort of forces you to take antennas
Hi Don, others
XM satellite radio is the answer for us. Great while
soldering on the K2 project.
Have a (tiny) receiver with a built-in transmitter installed
in the car and it rebroadcasts to all the FM receivers
in the house when we're home. Also serves the neighbors
if they so choose.
Mark,
If you're not hearing BC TX haronics perhaps you have
location noise problem and don't realize what you're
missing. Some better RX antennas might be of help.
I use a 6' hardline loop with a pre-amp.

There´s been a discussion lately here about good headphones and I´like to know
if the K2 can drive the JRC-ST3 headphones.
At the moment I´m using a Sennheiser HD 410 with the IC 761, but this one

Sverre,
The only thing I can say is that the battery used in the K2 is a Panasonic
(1229 I recall), and would be built to whatever quality standards and
considerations that are characteristic of that manufacturer and battery
line.
Certainly with any battery there is a risk of leakage, explosion,

to the serviceunless

Is one end of the white plastic free to move upward? If so, you do not have

Good Evening,

some of you were very far down below the noise. I did get TF but there
was one very, very weak signal on 40 meters which I simply could not get a

I have heard that one thing about satellite radio is that only sometimes
is the reception from satellites...the rest of the time it is repeated
from terrestrial stations, especially in dense urban areas, which might

By any chance did you remove the polarizing strip instead of just the
thin protective strip on the LCD module?
I did that and ordered a new one. I dug the old strip out of the
trash, cleaned it off and stuck it back on so I could continue
building--it's still there working just fine.
