I wonder where HM Customs draw the line vis a vis Import Duty between a
'kit' and a bunch of pre-assembled modules? I have not asked them in case it
gives them any new ideas ;-)

I agree with Geoff, why run the risk of HM Customs taking a look at the
situation. I presume Elecraft will continue to declare the K3 as a kit, and
use the same tarriff code. The assembly of many modules, and many hardware
bits, surely is a kit of parts Still has my vote as a good buy.

Hello,
AFAIK, kit or not has nothing to do with it. Amateur radio equipment is duty
free in EU. All that must be paid is a tax which is equivalent to VAT in the
country where the equipment is being imported.
The status as a kit appears to be importance for the CE marking but not for

Of course not.
Is the new K3 ESSB capable? If so what would be the bandwidth specs and

Mike,
This is addressed in the FAQ.
ESSB is possible using the AM 6 kHz filter for

Actually you could do ESSB at even wider bandwidths, say up to 4.5 or
even 5 kHz, but the exact specs are TBD.

If an SDR radio needed to be tuned like a radio with a knob-based

John,
Do not install the Power Mod unless it proves necessary. If you cannot
achieve 3 to 4 watts output on all bands with a 12 volt power supply,
you will need the change. But if you can achieve 3 to 4 watts out,
adding the mod will only stress the components in the transmit chain.

I agree with that, my pc of choice is a Mac, so its either got to be
platform independent or platform less, and I'm leaning towards the later.
Let us buy the display of our choice and support most reasonable

would be better.
The discussion about the UI of an SDR suggests a new solution is needed.
