John,
480 ma is just about double the normal receive current. You do have
something wrong there.
You will just have to hunt for it, but remember that most everything in
the K2 runs cool to only slightly warm during receive - you may be able
to find out what is getting hot by examining for
Rick
In common with other lead-acid batteries, the battery used in the K2
suffers when
discharged to any extent. Unfortunately, the only method of using a
lead-acid battery
that will keep it near top condition is to only lightly discharge it
then re-charge it
immediately. You will often see

Nice clean, crisp signalso assume he was using the K3?
Band was very quiet/half dead, Ed's signal was also the best one here
on 20m.

I have managed to stay out of this thread - but I read Dilbert the other
day.
This just about sums it all up:

Can someone direct me to instructions on how to connect a laptop to a K2
that has the KAT-100-1 tuner already connected to J8?

I managed to get my unit built up and installed in a bout 8 hours or so.
Everything went very well by following the check list to the letter. I
caught myself installing a cap in the wrong position just once but some
quick work with a bit of solder wick took care of that.
This is just a basic

You said you had -100dbm - was that before or after peaking the caps?
I think mine will copy 1uv from my XG-1 which -107dbm so you seem to
be in the ball park.
I could go recheck really quick but i'm pretty sure I heard the CW with
the sig gen set to around -110dbm after peaking the
John,
Instructions for the cable are in the KAT100 manual.
The KAT100 and the computer interface do not use the same AUX I/O pins,
so you have 2 tails on the connector that plugs into the K2.
The diagram for which wires connect to what pins is shown in the KAT100
manual (and also the

Looking for the original Elecraft Heil microphone if anyone has one that does
not use it and wants to sell for what they paid for it. Not talking about the
new Handi Mics but the type that heil has discontinued. Please reply off list

Has anyone modified the crystal filter in the KX1 for better
selectivity for CW operation? Is the selectivity limited by physical
constraints (filter leakage), or would a 4-pole 500 Hz
(non-adjustable) filter be an improvement?

Do be sure your earphone has at least -100 or better dbm sensitivity. I
won't buy one unless is better than -108. I have a set that does -120.

Justin,
The KX1 is relatively quiet, and the sensitivity of your headphones has
a lot to do with how much the AF gain has to be advanced before you can
hear the noise floor of the receiver. The important factor is not how
loud the noise floor is, but how far above the noise floor is the

Most probably it was the K3 on 20m. I was using a ProIII and the K3, and as
it turned
For you oldtimers on here that remember Mountain Ops Communications that made
the black and Orange packs that fit the K1 and K2 and some accesories, does
anybody have one they no longer use for the K2? They just stopped making them
or went out of buisness a few years ago. Looking for one to
hello,
is there possibly an elmer for the k2 near me? would like to sit down
and possibly get help with assembly. i am at page 60 in the manual but i
am kinda iffy on my torrid winding. i am planning on buying the
pre-wound torrids in the near future. i guess that is an art. will
gladly
Hi there, I'm not an elmer but I just wanted to drop a note that
torrids aren't really that hard to wind. Just stick the wire through
the hole the specified number of times, then strip the leads by
passing them through a blob of solder on your soldering iron. I found
it to be quite easy
Good Evening,
Forty meters was a lot of fun after the frustration of twenty meters;
full of QSB and weak signals. I was sure 40 was going to be difficult but
the QRN stayed away for the most part (at least on my end of things :)
Signals were much, much stronger while the QSB was less.
I am not local to you, but perhaps I can help with the toroid winding.
They are not difficult - some may regard them as 'tedious', but they are
not difficult. Just remember 2 things - 1) count correctly, a wire
through the center of the core is a turn - if the wire makes a full wrap
around

Hello,
A correction must be made to the forty meter list:
K2VCO - Vic - CA - K3 - 0007
Now we have worked three consecutively numbered K3s: K2VCO with 7, N0SS with 8
and KI6WX with number 9.
Who will own the next K3 which checks into ECN? It would be nice to work all
of the test rigs
