I wonder which issue of the K3 Assembly Manual does the Errata sheet
Rev. A-4 refer?
The errata sheet shows and amendment to page 48, yet the Assembly Manual
XD3 only goes up to page 47. Also, on page A-2, the seventh row is the
Encoder assembly, not a jumper block.

One tip: make sure of the orientation of the connector pins before
soldering especially on heavy gauge wire. This can be a bit tricky as the
pin will want to rotate on the wire as soon as you touch it with the
soldering iron (Murphy at work). It's important so you don't have to twist

Are you still schizophrenic if you get a QSL card?
Only if you sent it to yourself :)

Hi David,
We're in the midst of manual and errata updates. It should be
straightened out soon.

Several have asked whether they should build a K3 semi-kit or get it
factory-assembled. As a field tester, I missed out on the opportunity to
build my K3 from scratch but I did have the opportunity to take parts of it
apart and put it back together. You learn a lot from building. When I buy a
Rev A of the Assembly Manual is now on the web site. Sorry for the

I was more fortunate than Rick, got to build mine from scratch, and
second Rick's comment. It's not hard, the directions are quite good,
and doesn't take much time. And you learn how the whole thing goes
together from the start.
The hardest part of the job is managing the left-over packaging
The magnetic shield is attached with a double sided sticky pad... I am
concerned the shield may become detached and fall into the rig. Sticky
pads don't have a good reputation for staying put.
Any thoughts guys?

If you have ever tried to remove the speaker shield from the speaker in

In my leisure time while designing a new rocket or mindlessly playing
solitaire I like to scan the band. The K3 and K2 both have the scan muted as
the default. With the K2 I made up several macros in MixW to scan various
bands. In each case after I start to scan I have to stop scanning and hold

What does DSP have to do with it?
Years ago I remember being sleepy, late at nite,
crystal filter turned on to my NC173 listening to CW.
I looked at what my hand had been writeing while I was
half asleep. There was some writing there, but awake
again I found no signal.

Brian,
You will need to make a special cable with three (3)connectors to connect
the appropriate signals to both the KAT100 and the RS-232 port on your PC.
See page 25 of the KAT100 manual for details.
Don't try to a standard serial I/O cable for the RS-232, that will do bad

Any recommendations for a low cost Iambic cw key?
Low cost is the key word here. If you don't mind building your own
paddle, these are great, and they work very well.
