Yeah you can do that. There's a software update coming (or maybe it's
already out -- I haven't checked recently) that will make it easier. What
you would do is disable the 500hz filter and narrow the DSP to 500 hz, then
go to the CONFIG menu and enable the 500 hz filter. I think (but I'm not
sure)
I've just completed my K3, S/N 56.
Here's one minor item ... other than cost ... related to
choosing between the 5-pole and 8-pole filters ...
I believe the 5-pole units require entering their individual
(and each different) off-sets into the radio during initial filter
set-up. There's a
Hi Ken. While it is an extra step I don't see how it would be a pain. ??
The offset is also on the filter itself. Since moving filters around
already necessitates going into the filter setup in CONFIG, it's
not hard to go to FL OFS and dial in the offset on the filter.

I wouldn't suggest that the tuner accuate the rig to go into a mode and

The AM crowd seems to prefer open wire line, balanced tuners, and as much
wire in the air, and as high up as they can get it.

Yep, that's Ham radio ca. 1940 in the heyday of AM.
And, you know, it's not a bad strategy for getting a
Well, I did say it's a minor item ... (:-))
Perhaps chore or avoidable step would have been
a better choice.

First of all, I have to congratulate the posters in the earlier thread on line
loss, etc., for prompting me to actually get my calculator ARRL Handbook out
and read up on transmission line loss, dB calculations, etc.
My interest has come up as I'm planning on installing a flag pole vertical in
Yes, I fear that many hams do not realize how much loss is being
introduced by their tuners. It has been stated that MFJ makes good
tuners, but my experience with their MFJ-963D and the MFJ-971 tuners say
otherwise - the inductor is mounted too close to the enclosure which
reduces the
