When a K2 stops working when the mic is connected, then this sounds as if the 5
Volt in the mic connector is being shorted.
This will take out several vital functions on the front panel/control boards. I
would check the mic's plug.

Gary,
If the same problem happens again, try removing the Control Board MCU U6
from its socket, and then putting the IC back into its socket. I had the
same problem twice, once a couple of years after building the K2 and again
about a year later, although the power level control did not work
Lots of learning ... even if trivial ... fallout from
my question about the slashed zero. I've had a
number of off-reflector requests for the font(s).
BTW, several of them have the zero with a center
dot instead of a slash.

is no similar mechanism for USPS Priority Mail and I know nothing about

Is the frozen state possibly the K2 in transmit?
A ground on the PTT line will put the K2 into transmit and lock the frequency
display and disable most of the front panel controls with the exception of
the power control.

Leigh,
Please remember the absolute minimum voltage required is 11V. It's very
possible your batteries dropped below this while running 50W. The K3 is not
as efficient at that power as it is at 100W. Next time try dropping power
to about 10-15W. It should be easier on the batteries and still
